Sharp snubs Clarets

I might be clutching at straws but the key words in that piece are he has informed Blackwell he wants to stay in South Yorkshire

HMmmmmmmm!Maybe,Just maybe it's true he wants to sign for us and if Blunts don't want to accept our bid he will tell them then that he will see his last year of his contract out with them, hence putting some strong pressure on them accepting our Bid.If there was a smilie for crossed fingers then I would have posted it here. :)

If he could be there after Blackwell leaves then I think that would be Billy's first choice but If not then I think we will be his second choice. One option that has been forgotten so far that is not totally out of the question is another season long loan?Although It would be better for us to sign him permanently,it would be a better option for Billy giving him the chance to go back if Blackwell gets the sack during this coming season.Only problem there is Sheff Utd would not like that has they would get nothing for him at the end of the season.

He may want to stay at Bramall Lane but it is clear that Sheff Utd don't want him. JR needs to get on the blower ASAP to Kevin McCabe with an improved bid. There is a good chance we could sign him.

I hope there won't be tears at bedtime on here if we fail to bring our lad home.

as i have been saying for sometime 'sharp does not want to play for burnley'

if true what the star is reporting about sharp wanting to stay
in south yorks that leaves a possible 5 clubs on that list

sheff weds....two hopes bob hope and no hope
rotherham.....as above
barnsley......outsiders dark horses in betting

that leaves donny rovers and sheff utd

so if you was billy and you could hand pick your terms
knowing how much he loves sheff utd how would you play your cards.

a season long loan would fit that bill for billy, then if blackwell is sacked the door opens a tad back at sheff utd.

but i cant see sheff utd having any of that as they need cash on hip to better their squad it seems

which comes back to drfc who have put a offical bid on the table

Yes Filo, I heard this too, a couple of days ago.  I think Billy will return in a triangle of fait that needed other players to commit to the club. I suspect another loan, to enable Billy to become a free agent in the Summer of 2011. If so then Sean may potentially have funds to bolster other departments.

Why would Sheff Utd turn down a bid of £600,000 - £1m only to allow him out on loan for a season with a FREE transfer following at the end of this season?

The offer we've made for Billy is more than fair.  Its Utd playing at silly buggers. They know how devastating Billy can be in our side, and they know that had SOD been any less of a gentleman that they would have lost home and away against us.

JR, keep your phone turned off, mate.

I may be being optimistic, but this may as well be a huge come and get me statement from Billy Sharp!

In 2 and a half years Billy has hardly played under Blackwell and there is no sign of this changing. Unless Blackwell seriously thinks he can fit Billy into his system, he has two options…sell to Donny for (lets say) £600-800k now, or let Billy go for free in the summer.

Billy knows that we can't afford what Sheff Utd are asking, by saying he wants to stay in south yorks, he is forcing Sheff Utd to look at the only bid that fits the 'South Yorks' criteria, that is ours. If he truly was only interested in staying local he could have said he wants to stay in Yorkshire (hence leaving the possibility open for Leeds - an easy commute up the M1 from Sheffield). Instead it has to be 'South Yorkshire'. hmmm.

I love how when The Star / The Sun write an article about Rovers/Rovers players and it is good... people take it as fact but when it's bad it's shrugged off as lazy journalism and terrible sourcing.

Just wonderful.

After thinking about this a bit more, we may be getting carried away with this south yorkshire comment. It says he wants to stay in south yorkshire and fight for his place. Different meanings i think.

I can't agree with that, Rob.

I'm not privvy to the negotiations but there is only so much posturing and waiting we can do. We desperately need a striker, we desperately need Billy Sharp, but if it's not going to happen we cannot be caught napping and left with nothing.

Last summer we were well into the season, had already dropped points from missing opportunities in the box, and were literally minutes away from missing out altogether before Sharp joined on loan. It is highly unlikely that Sheffield United will loan him out in such circumstances again, and we cannot be left with nothing.

We need to force the issue to try and get Billy back here, and if it absolutely cannot happen we need to know that soon.

I saw the interview with the bootlace on SkySports News.  The reporter asked if the lace was at liberty to tell whether now Brooker was out was it certain that Billy Sharp was coming to the club, but the lace just said, \"No, I'm a frayed knot\".

Not trying to put a dampener on here, but aren't Barnsley (newly refurbished at the back with Mr. Shackell) also in South Yorkshire? Allegedly interested? And able to pay better wages? I hope he signs for the good of our club as he would be an undoubtedly huge asset - but let's all wait till whichever way it goes is confirmed eh? Am positive we have a good contingency plan should we miss out on him!

Sorry - glass half-full/half-empty and all that!

The reason I said that, Jon, is that (as stated) we have made a very good offer for Sharp, possibly more than those of us on here of a reasonably sensible disposition would regard as an upper limit.  As we know, Billy is a player who clearly is not going to get his chance at United.  Blackwell doesnt rate him or he would have played him last season rather than loan him out to a Yorkshire rival, and Blackwell is going nowhere until McCabe sells the club.  Billy staying at the blades is a huge gamble, both for Billy in that the new manager after Blackwell might not fancy him either, or for SUFC in that they will be forced to either offer him a new contract or lose him for nothing.

JR shouldnt be held over a barrel if that means commiting more funds to get Billy at the detriment of being able to afford the other pieces of the jigsaw we need to secure.  Losing out on Kennedy and getting Friend on a free is now looking like a cracking bit of business if it means it freed up the funds so we can bring Sharp in.

I agree with that, my overriding point is that we can only wait for so long. JR knows our upper limits and if it ends up out of reach then we have know sooner rather than later so that we don't risk being caught short.
