this is his career we are talking about

he has expressed his preference the next move is not down to him it is SUFC who must decide how they are going to respond

do they

A) give him another chance with a guaranteed number of games

B) allow him to run down the contract potentially losing him for nothing next year

C) inform him that we like your attitude but we will be listening to offers and \"on yer bike\"

we are obliged to let events unfold and then react

Sheffield United forward Billy Sharp will not be moving to Leeds United this summer after confirming his intention to remain at Bramall Lane.
Sharp is understood to have informed Blades manager Kevin Blackwell that he intends to stay with Sheffield United and fight for a first-team place next season, despite significant attempts to lure him elsewhere.


Leeds were one of three sides monitoring the 24-year-old, although the Elland Road club are not believed to have submitted a firm offer for Sharp and their interest in him is believed to have waned in recent weeks.


Sheffield United had bids on the table from Burnley and Doncaster Rovers for a striker who has been out of favour under Blackwell, but Sharp rejected a transfer to Turf Moor on Monday and appears to have ruled out the possibility of a summer exit.

If this is case can we now expect jr and sod to move quickly for other striker

I would think JR will know what the situation is regarding
Billy.So the longer we go before signing another striker the
more promising it looks,  well that's my thoughts any way

It's a tricky situation we find ourselves in.

If Billy wants to stay at his club then there's nothing we can do about that, we have to accept it and understand it, but the most important thing for Doncaster Rovers is where does that leave us?

As I see it we're left with three options:

1. Pull out of the Sharp deal altogether and sign someone else of a high calibre (this carries the risk of buying a player we know less about, and the risk of then seeing Sharp move elsewhere if it doesn't work out for him at Sheffield United).

2. Sign some other striker(s) of a lower calibre for less money (surely we need to add some more to the squad regardless) and leave enough money in the budget to react to the Sharp situation if it changes.

3. We are left in an almost farcical situation of, given the \"biggest transfer budget in the history of the club,\" waiting to see if our primary target gets a game at his parent club, and if he does then we end up with nothing but a considerably weaker forward line than we had at the start of last season, even before Sharp joined on loan.

Some big decisions to be made on what strategy we adopt.

How about Option 4: Sign another strike of an equal/higher caliber on less money/free transfer...

Sean will have Plan B,C,D - probably more different plans that we can think of.

We may/may not sign Sharp. We may/may not get another strike of equal caliber. We may/may not spend the most money ever. Until then can't we all just chill out and wait to see what happens with excitement and childlike anticipation? It's not like any of us can affect the outcome, so why moan about things that have yet to/may never happen?

While I agree with your sentiments, we are never going to stop fans getting worked up about transfer activity.....they are what they are and that is just their way

Option 4 does not exist to DRFC purely because of the wages. Striker of Billys calibre on a free wouldnt come here because the likes of Derby can always offer that bit more.

Back to the original post: i don't know why you're worried. It's not as if other targets e.g Garner have moved. Also it's very rare Rovers let 'the cat out the bag' so to speak with regards to targets etc.
Maybe with Oster signed and a decent signing could sway it for young William.
