The Star vs The Free Press

which one to believe?

The Star, \"serving South Yorkshire\" (which includes Sheffield!)
Rovers to try again after losing out on Sharp

or

the Doncaster Free Press?
Sharp saga not over yet?

(Both articles published 1st July 2010)

Free Press is the better paper IMO. It may only be weekly, but there's enough in it to make it worth the read and it actually focuses on Doncaster.

The Donny Star was better when it was an evening paper and when it actually focused on Donny a little bit more.

The Doncaster Evening Post was by far the best paper we've had in my opinion!!!

Joe Slater, Mick Sinclair, spot the ball, Peverelli's adverts....\"don't forget your fluffies\" isn't it, wasn't it?

Doncaster Evening Post by a country mile

Don't think wev'e had a Rovers reporter as staunch a fan since Joe Slater

Also think this from the same article is encouraging!!!!

The Doncaster boss is expecting all his players - apart from Steve Brooker and Byron Webster - to be fit for selection for next
Wednesday's opening friendly match at Askern Villa (7pm).

He said: \"Steve and Byron will still be training and are not that far away but we will give everybody a game who is fit.\"

New signing George Friend and striker James Hayter, who is about to sign a new extended contract, will both be in the squad

I've always liked Peter Catt as a Rovers journalist. He is a genuine fan too, and seems to have the inside track over the Star.

I enjoyed reading his reports & articles in the Star but don't know why they stopped as he continued in the Green 'Un for a while. Without doubt better than his successor!

The difference is Peter Catt is an experienced hack who's credible & checks his sources.  Steve Hossack just prints what people tell him.

A very fair assessment indeed Branton. Peter Catt (has he retired or something then?) took his job seriously and was a professional. His competitor in chief did, and does, neither. He also proved his spinelesssness beyond any shadow of a doubt. Bring back the BSTR consortium!!

Cheers

Funnily enough I said exactly the same thing during the Richdardson era in a fanzine and he threatened to sue me!

I wonder what the headline will be in The Star this week? They've got some major backtracking to do!  :P

As always. Just think 'BSTR' every time you read anything in that rag.

I've done most of my railway training with Peter Catts brother Brian, who is a lovely, lovely man. I think Savvy will know him as well.
