Poor old Rovers ....
« on February 22, 2020, 09:37:10 am by Donnywolf »
... the Loco that is - seen here presumably awaiting scrapping

Glad we at least got the Nameplate for the Club and it used to hang in the main entrance at Belle Vue. Always loved seein it when the door opened

Rumour was it was sold off and replaced by a replica - but never known if that was true - and if it was or wasnt where is it now ? Would love to see it somewhere prominent

...and finally - (I was just posting a Photo but have got carried away as usual) I wonder who got the matching one of the pair ?

Pleased to have the framed print / drawing of "Doncaster Rovers " on display in BVB and one at home where it has pride of place.

Dont know - if there is one I will certainly have a look in there again.

Just thought as well - maybe JR with his immense collection of Railway Modelling stuff has one ? Would look great on a wall somewhere.

Saw Pete Waterman on Canal Barge prog last week and he had dozens on his wall. I would settle for one lol

Answering myself now but here is a replica for £750 - bad example of what could be a great thing to have. Rovers one had broad vertical Red and White stripes if I remember it correctly

My memory could be playing tricks but I feel sure that I have seen the nameplate somewhere in the East Stand.

If I recall correctly, the original was sold during the 1980’s. Years later Peter Wetzel put out an appeal to try and locate its whereabouts as he wanted to but it back but, unfortunately, to no avail.

Posted this many a time. If you are looking for a Rovers inspired gift especially for an older g*t like BB for instance - and / or a Train spotter you could do worse than this :

I bought a miniature loco nameplate from the gift shop at the North York Moors Railway in Grosmont. Looks very smart in my house.

They had one in a Rovers display a few years back.

With the Museum relocation due to be completed in the summer all the exhibits should hopefully be listed and therefore the shedplate.

I’m pretty sure there’s one in the west stand reception display cabinet.

I have a print of the painting by Gary Cartwright and the nameplate has the red and white stripes as vertical but on the Richard Green print it shows them as horizontal - does anyone know which is correct?

Looking at John Ryan photo (on the link above) the colour is solid red which has foxed me

My Richard Green print has as you say horizontal stripes - dont know if anyone can tell from OP but I would say that looks solid red too ?

EDIT : Blown it up to twice the size and still looks a solid colour
Loco was built around 1937 so were we in plain Red at that time. We changed to a hooped shirt sometime then but not sure

I reckon that its artistic licence as I have found Models Prints and Paintings with horizontal stripes on some vertical on some and plain Red

I have just found this loco as well though (a real one) and blowing it up it has horizontal stripes (or hoops)

No need to blow up really - just click on and there is the answer

Thanks- the real mccoy has horizontal stripes then - all others are likely to be replicas! Or have been refurbished without proper research!

Interestingly the photo you show appears to be the "model" Gary Cartwright used in his painting which despite its new found inaccuracy will still have pride of place above my mantelpiece! -number 158 of 350.

This brings back lots of memories.  Saturdays spent on the Cattle Dock, Cup of tea in Priestnalls Cafe, Up to the Sheds, a climb on the Plant walls, bag of chips & scraps from Newtons chippie the back to the Cattle Dock before heading home to mark it all up in my Ian Allan loco spotting book.

Eee, them were the days   :woohoo:

What NNK? No mention of Ecky Bridge slope or Plant Stream at lunchtime on Saturdays?

Yipes, I completely forgot about Ecky Bridge slope!  Looking back now, we'd put a halfpenny on the line there when a goods train was coming to get it flattened to about four times it's size.  Always saw the plant stream from the Cattle Dock.  I have a few photographs somewhere taken with my Box Brownie, must dig them out some time.

I spent a lot of my childhood on the Hexthorpe bridge slope. Do you remember the WW2 tanks on the other side of the Sheffield line?
