Having a female manager in the future?
Having read an article regarding the potential for the Chelsea Ladies manager to take the job at the men's side, it got me wondering what the consensus of a female manager at the Rovers would be, personally if they had the knowledge I'd be all for it, get the feeling that won't be a totally agreed upon opinion though
-
It's a results-based business. If they can get the results, there shouldn't be any barrier.
-
Remember this?

Cheri Lunghi was a bit of alright I remember.

No :chair:

Would Man City employ the manager of Stalybridge Celtic as first team manager?
-
No, it’s men’s football not women’s
-
No, it’s men’s football not women’s
Is that a no for all women who work in "men's football"?
-
Wouldn't have an issue in principle, but how do you get round the changing room issue?
-
No, it’s men’s football not women’s
So do all women physios get kicked out? And Phil Neville has to leave England Women?
Personally no problem with it as long as they could have the respect of the dressing room and is decent enough with tactics, signings, etc.
-
Wouldn't have an issue in principle, but how do you get round the changing room issue?
I'm sure the lads would get used to it in time.
-
It's not our call. If the powers that be appointed a person because they believe they are the best person for the job, their sex, racial origin or religion is not a concern.
-
Remember Cheri Lunghi naked in the shower - made a big impact on me as a 14 year old
-
Men are managers of Women’s football.
Need I say any more. The year is 2019 not 1919.
It’s totally down to ability. Gender is irrelevant.
SOME PEOPLE ARE LIVING IN VICTORIAN TIMES IF THEY THINK ITS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
It’s as bad as racism imo.
-
Chelsea will no more appoint a female manager than they will me. You could just imagine all the teddy throwing by the overpaid prima donnas if they were dropped by a female manager
Personally best person for the job no matter their background
-
Wouldn't have an issue in principle, but how do you get round the changing room issue?
The same way Neville gets round delivering his management for England’s team and Neil Redfern did for the Belles.
I would have no issue with a woman being manager at all as long as they were the right person for the job.
-
I understand why the physical game is separate between men and women but off the pitch football is football and if your a leader and have the ability to get results it shouldn't matter that you played in the women's game only. It will happen on day, probably not for a while though
-
You'd rightly be labelled an old-fashioned sexist if you objected to having a female boss in any other profession so what would the issue be here? If they were qualified of course.
So what if "it's men's football"? Does having a vagina preclude someone from knowing how to coach, manage a group of people or understand football?
-
I as a supporter I would have no problem with it, the problem will be the first to get a job at any of the top jobs including top non league sides would be carrying the hopes of all their gender. Fail and it would be even harder for those that follow to get a start.
Quite a responsibility, both for those who are the first to take the chance of being the first to appoint a female manager, and the first to be appointed, and the media would be all over it.
As a chairman with money invested, the publicity would be good and probably attract plenty of sponsorship. would I take a chance, never in a month of Sundays.
-
Wouldn't have an issue in principle, but how do you get round the changing room issue?
What issue?
-
There's no room for sexism in football. Having a vagina shouldn't come into it.
-
Wouldn't have an issue in principle, but how do you get round the changing room issue?

Potentially seeing lots of naked men, would be the obvious issue.

It doesn't. Our manager is a right arrogant c**t!

Don't know what your problem is to be honest, think your trying to derail this thread into an argument, and I'm not going to bite and stoop to your level.
The issue i raised, is valid and plain to see.

Nobody else sees an issue, so it's not plain to see why you say there is one. I'm just trying to find out what it's based on instead of just you saying 'there's an issue' and not saying why.
And - as others have pointed out - do you think whatever the 'issue' is is still an 'issue' when a man manages a womens' team? Because to me it just looks like you wouldn't want a female managing a mens' team just because she's a woman.

Well at least two replies show that not everyone is ok with it.
Retdon1 and Col from Donny wouldn’t want a female manager in men’s football.
Mr Wiggerly not reading the thread properly again.

The issue is both ways, Wether its a man in a female changing room, or a woman in a men's changing room.
Your trying to portray me as sexist, to get a rise out of me.
Unlucky, you'll have to try harder.

If your 'issue' is just the same when it's a man managing a womens' team they don't seem to have an 'issue' with it at all considering there's so many men managing women, so what I can't understand is why you think they can't not have an 'issue' with it when it's the other way round. That's all. I'm not trying to portray you as sexist, you're doing that. I'm giving you the opportunity to not look like one.

When someone says in effect 'I don't have an issue with it, but there's an issue with it' don't you think that needs some sort of explanation?
And yet again you call me a WUM when all I do is ask a question and don't get a straight answer.
-
A lot of this is assuming the female manager is straight, when there’s a possibility that 11 Dicks might not do it for her.
Hope Powell springs to mind there.
-
Oh my lord whatever next....it’s not neadetholic to say NO!
I bet you lot make ya own cuppa forchristsake......
However I’m certainly not opposed to women boxers fighting at the men’s weight.... professionally of course....lol..
-
It’s a no from me just don’t think they would get the respect of the players as much as a male manager
-
If you wouldn't consider it on the basis of gender then you're sexist.

Wouldn't have an issue with it. Why would anyone?
It's simple really, isn't it? If you'd have a problem with a manager because he's black, you're a racist. By definition. If you'd have a problem with a manager because she's a woman, you're sexist. Whether you think you are or not, and whatever means you use to try and justify your position.
That's just what those words mean. You can't argue any different, surely?

No, it’s men’s football not women’s
It's not men's or women's football is it. It's football. On a Saturday do you go out the house and say I'm just off to watch the men's football. Be back later. No you say I'm going to watch the football. What does it matter if managers are men, women, black, white, gay, straight etc. If they are qualified for the job they are qualified for the job in whatever profession. Would you go to the doctor's and ask to see a male doctor because your male or a female doctor because your female

It is a bit of a non issue when you consider that the England women's team have only done well under the last two managers who happen to have been male.
The question is, will the England women's team ever appoint a female manager again, or go for a high profile manager like Neville who is using them to try and get a start in men's football.

There's a huge difference between being sexist, and not having a problem with it in principle, but recognising potential issues.

Strange one.
In women's football it can be cunstrued as sexist by appointing a manager of the opposite sex.
But in men's football, it can also be cunstrued as sexist by NOT appointing a manager of the opposite sex.
I guess that's the society we live in now.

Apparently plenty of people asked to see a doctor of their own gender.

Really?
History is full of people 'recognising potential issues' with the mixing of races. We now, rightly, see those people as racist bigots.
I don't see any potential issues here, including the dressing room thing, that don't boil down to 'but she's not the same as them'. Can you describe one that doesn't?

My doctor retired recently. My surgery only had female doctor's at the moment. I was asked if that would be a problem.
When I said 'No. Do many people think it's a problem.' I was told, 'Yes, mostly older folks'.

It is like all the premiership managers qualified with the top coaching badges, have all the best youth players and coaching facilities, and then don't play the youngsters because they don't trust them, and go out and buy ready made players.
Now women's football is getting commercial, more and more teams at the top will have men as managers.
It will come down to the people putting money in to the teams picking the managers they think will bring success.

I imagine that it's quite normal for someone to hope for a same-gender doctor in some circumstances. Take for instance a bloke with a genital problem. I'm sure he'd be even slightly more embarrassed dropping his pants and asking a female GP if she'd "got any Leeches for this".

Gotta say, if someone's gonna have to fiddle with my chopper, I'd rather let my new Serbian female doctor get to grips with it than the old male Kiwi codger who's just retired.
Each to their own, I guess.

Aye, multi culturalism is going swimmingly well, and has never envountered a single problem. 🤦♂️🤦♀️.
To be honest, I think your being pedantic in order to seek attention.
You see no potential issue in a testosterone filled changing room, with 11 semi naked/naked men strutting round a single female?
Yeah right....

I'm not seeking attention. I'm pointing out that your views are somewhat outdated. Not sure I needed to though, you seem to be doing a decent job of that yourself.
Do football changing rooms not have doors? As pointed out before, it's not a problem when men manage women's teams. I reckon there's a not too problematic solution to be found.
-
I can’t imagine it being too difficult to agree a period of time for changing/showering where the staff of the other gender stay out of the room.?
How does it work with female physios.? I don’t think the issue of different sexes and changing rooms is particularly problematic..

Exactly. It's a nonsense, spouted by by people holding onto outdated ideas of gender roles.
-
There's been so many powerful and effective female leaders in this world. All kinds of styles too not just the woman in a man's suit.
The main issue, currently, is the lack of woman with the necessary skills. That will change though there's always going to be a more obvious career path for men from players to manager.
How refreshing to be having such theoretical chat on here! Something must be going well?
-
That's fine, if your saying to avoid showers and changing areas.
Thankyou, you've now provided a solution to the potential issue I've raised.
Wasn't that easier than accusing people of being racist and sexist.

Ah, irony.
snowflake is just what you've labelled yourself, by having no argument other than accusing others of being sexist or racist or both.
Youve gone out of your way to be offended by something you have no right to be offended about.
Hence, snowflake

Sounds just like snowflake behaviour

It’s one of those silly ideas/topics that will whither on the vine, has surely it must...
i personally think a woman is more than capable of doing the football manager job...but why would she want that kind of terrace abuse from the away fans and more importantly the home fans when things go awry, if at all they do....
Shall we all stop effing and blinding and not be coarse with our jests and Male innuendos?
Of course some will say I must be a sexist....I say to them...” go powder ya nose” and get all quaint prettified
Men are losing their identity, all this bloody arty farty liberalism and calling anyone who doesn’t agree a name ending in “ist “
Are we all supposed to say “ oh yes that’s a great idea “ ?
Let’s not debate it as men but as “ modern men” ....I’ll get mi coat before I offend my sense of existence built within my DNA from the Saxons, the Normans and those long haired Vikings.....

No, it’s men’s football not women’s
I'll just go and support the Belles then should I?
I’m sure that is your choice, but adds little to the argument/discussion Dontcha think?

This thread reminds me why I stopped reading this forum. Some people need to realise it's 2019 not 1959.
Society might have accepted you being a sexist at one point but it no longer does. If you can't accept that then you are the snowflake, not the person pointing out your outdated views.

I see,...mmmmmm, you only want to read threads that offer little diversity , threads that conform to agendas you never subscribed to but feel aggrieved to oppose....
And furthermore, society is only a word, it means very little regarding values!
I grew up in the 60s when respect was rife, when an old age pensioner could pinpoint a voice from a gang being disrespectful.....and the mere mention of telling ya dad would cause an involuntary bowel movement...
I’m not sure what sexist actually means and I doubt many can tell me.....it’s just a word that women use to describe something they don’t like the sound of coming out of a males mouth....
Gotta go now....the wife wants a cuppa!! Lol

You can’t interpret what you read.??
Jenny is a woman, therefore to the poster who said it’s mens football not women’s, she was suggesting that as a female supporter she should only go watch the women’s game..
I am really surprised that needs explaining.!
-
Don't be too surprised. The idea that a female manager might not necessarily be required to shower with the team needed explaining!

It did ....probably because it wasn’t that much of a statement, and I was looking for more depth I guess....
Retdon was referring to the idea of a female football manager..
Jenny asked a random question unrelated to the Retdon statement!
Jenny May have well of said..” I’ll go shoot crows then, should I ? “
To which the answer would once again be ...( as above)

I grew up in the 80s. What I remember isn't much different. Turned out a few years later, half my teachers had been fiddling kids and everyone on tv was fiddling everything that moved whether they wanted it or not.
I wonder if what you describe is just how being a kids feels?
I still manage to understand this confusing new world mind....

Odd that, I thought Jenny was just following the thread”s development.
It was pretty damned clear to me what she meant, and I agreed with her..
