I also once had a similar thing in April this year. I got this letter from Inland Revenue. It looked really cosher like, with the Royal HM seal and reference numbers and genuine looking letter. It stated I had overpaid my tax allowance and that they had enclosed a cheque for £678.90. The cheque was genuine looking too. However I wasn't falling for that old chestnut of sticking it in the bank and then somebody somewhere getting your details. I just tore that bad boy up there and then, safe in the knowledge that I had scuppered somebodies cunning plan.
