Watched the first few overs and saw Cook and Strauss go. Fell asleep and went down to watch the evening session at 0430. Fell asleep for the last few overs. Things are looking very good.

Ponting is just a 'Richard Keys arms' wee shite. That incident probably unfazed KP who went LBW 2 runs later when he was looking very good. Well done Ponting for fronting up both umpires and KP. Just not cricket old boy, and un-biasly he was never out. I bet that really boiled Pontings hairy piss when slinger Johnson had Prior caught behind early doors only to have been adjudged a no ball, correctly too. Add to that the gnats cock decision which would have had Trott nearly run out early on.

I felt a bit sorry for Ponting in 2009 when he got a lot of grief off the crowds. But today he earned all the flak he got. He was bang out of order over the Pietersen not out.

Great batsman but lousy captain, I'm afraid.

This comment on youtube sums it up

What you have to remember is that it's genetic with the Australians and you can't really blame them. Ponting's ancestors were deported from the Mother country? for refusing to accept the rule of law and authority and this is merely an example a family tradition. Ponting's great grandfather , i imagine, probably stole a policeman's helmet

Aye...[strike]Mike Gatting[/strike]..oops, ahem, 'An England Captain' would never argue with an umpire, would he?

Indeed, that England captain argued with an umpire who was known to be belligerent and full of his own self importance, and who was umpiring in Pakistan in a match that was  Pakistan v England, oh and he was Pakistani. Although the Gatting incident will always be remembered, it's worth noting that he'd previously (before England) had a major bust up on the pitch with the N Zealand Captain over dodgy decisions going against the visiting country.
Ponting was arguing with 3 umpires, technology, every TV angle and in various speed motions.....even though he was repeatedly proved wrong. Gatts was arguing with an incompetent homer of a single umpire only.

At the end of the day it's one rule for them and one for us

and even more at the end of the day, we invented the bloody game, so we should always have the decisions go our way regardless

I was living up on the Gold Coast the last time the ashes was played out there.
I didn't give a toss about cricket and could probably count the cricketers I knew on one hand.
BUT... You would not believe the bias of the Australian press. It makes the London press here look like total neutrals.
As for Pontin... They were so far up his ass it was unbelievable. I started wanting England to stuff them just because of the press and actually took notice of cricket for the first time in my life.. Unfortunately was got stuffed that year and I had to put up with the media over there talking about how Mr Pontin is god..

Doesn't come as any surprise. Australia have always been the world's worst losers. They have no concept whatsoever of taking it on the chin when they get their arse's whipped. f**king great int it?

And the ultimate irony is that they call US \"whinging poms\". There is no-one in the whole world who whinges like a beaten Aussie.

Just to prove that Ponting is a complete t**t!

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/ponting-defends-right-to-challenge/story-fn67x5v8-1225977458193

This bit is unbelievable!

Quote
\"Still in my heart, and in my mind, I believe that he inside-edged that ball,\" Ponting said.

\"And I think if (Erasmus) looked at the replay properly, in the way that it needs to be looked at, I think everyone will understand that that Hot Spot mark wasn't a long way away from where the ball passed the bat.\"

Ricky! the hotspot was on the bottom edge of the bat, the ball went through halfway up the bat! how far does the hot spot have to be away from the point of non contact have to be before it`s classed as an edge?

You cheating whinging convict t**t!

I'm glad he only got a fine and not a one game ban. We don't want him to miss the Sydney celebration test do we.

The only thing that can save them tonight is Cusworth Rovers turning up covered in factor 50.

I'm not the world's biggest Ponting fan - and can join in the Aussie bashing with anyone.

However, I think it's good to see that the bloke has got some spine - prepared to argue what he thought was a wrong decision. His record has been fantastic for his country and, as captain, he's about to bow out with a whimper - the shame of losing the ashes series in his own back yard being squarely blamed on him.

His team are crumbling around him, the convict press are ripping him to shreds and he's looking at yet another innings defeat to their bitter rivals - can't blame the bloke for getting a bit upset.

True, he should know better than to rant at an official like that, but I like to see emotion in the game and it is clear to see that the pressure is getting to him now.

I'm with you on all of that BLIR. Ponting's almost the last remnant of Australian sides that for 20 years were simply the best in the world. He's still an awesome batsman - but for me his fury is based on the frustration of leading a side that isn't fit to clean the boots of their forbears. Christ! Just think of the batsman they've had over the last 20 years: the two Waughs, Slater and Alan Border are simply 4 of probably a dozen world beaters. As for the bowlers all you've got to do is think of just Warne and McGrath to know that this side now is almost amateur. Ponting can't like playing with lads like that.

Still, our Ricky is, I think, the first Aussie ever to lead the convicts to THREE Ashes series defeats. :):):)

Cheers

Just watching the last rites of the match on a streaming site. I don't understand why there are so many empty seats. I thought this was supposed to be a world record crowd. I thought Bruce Aussie liked turning out to see a team win the Ashes. Is there a bus strike in Melbourne or summat?

The convicts probably got themselves locked up.
