How typical of the Mail to focus their story on the cost.
QuoteHow typical of the Mail to focus their story on the cost. It's in the Sun as well.If it were up to me he would be executed.
Hear Hear !As an aside I think we should ban Politics on Off Topic .... it is much more emotive than Football and usually has no real "answer" even with hindsightExample .... Was Thatcher "right" to sink the Belgrano ? Because I called her Thatcher you can probably guess my answer BUT it goes to prove my point. Others (even those that did not live through it) will probably have different opinions but which is the real versionPS I do not really want an answer to the above question - it is there as an example
Quite right mjdgreg. It's always been the way. Why on earth we got involved in tackling that Hitler chap when he wasn't threatening us, I really don't know.He had every right to enslave the Slavic people, subjugate France and gas Jews. We should have kept our nose out and dealt with our own problems.
MickYou should bone up on your history. Many influential right-wingers were all in favour of settling with Hitler and leaving him to get on with whatever he wanted to do in Europe. Chamberlain called Czechoslovakia "A far away country of which we know little". EdwardVIII was a sympathiser with Hitler (as was Joe Kennedy in the USA). Major General JFC Fuller, the military strategist thought Hitler was a great man and that we were mad to not go along with him. Hey ho.
I just love the way Hitler's march through Europe, his slaughter of so many millions in the concerntration camps and all the millions of young men from all sides who died or terribly wounded can be described as shenanigans...That's like calling someone like Mugabe a little tinker..
hank you BST.It would be useful if morons like the O.P. actually burshed up a little on their modern History before makeing ridiculous statements, "When Hitler started his shenanigans it didn't take much to work out that left well alone it wouldn't be long before he was threatening us" - laughable.

You must be another one put straight on the Cow and Gate. You also need to bursh up a bit on your poor grammar.I think you'll find I know my history a lot better than any of you lot. Britain joined WWII for many reasons. One of the main reasons was the realisation that Hitler's expansionist policy would eventually bring Great Britain into conflict with Germany. Delaying going to war would have given further advantage to the growing German war machine.
Britain joined WWII for a confluence of reasons, chief among these was the growing acceptance that Germany's expansionist policy would inevitable bring the UK into conflict with Germany, and that delaying would give further advantage to the growing German war machine

Pretty much what I said in my first statement, but I've given a few more details just to clarify matters as some of you are incapable of understanding my first comment.
Who was it that said " that's the trouble with being older - you know everything and are surrounded by millions who know nothing"
Can I be cheeky and ask just how old you are Mick?
I'm 54 years young but often get mistaken for someone in his thirties. I know madmick and he is indeed 50. He misses posting on this forum but has decided that as absolutely everything he posted about the stupid experiment was proved to be right and he didn't get an apology off anyone he has decided to not post anymore. He says it's your loss.
