Naming of the bars at the Keepmoat: Vote now!
« on January 24, 2013, 10:21:39 am by bobjimwilly »
Now's your chance to vote for you favourite 3 names to be passed to DRFC, through the In Rovers We Trust project!

We've taken the twenty twenty-five most popular names from this thread (thanks for all your suggestions) and hopefully we'll see some of them above the keepmoat bars and food outlets in the near future!  :aok:
The poll will close in 7 days.

I missed the thread where folk could suggest options and now it's locked...

But, it'd be nice to see Doncaster's most capped footballer Gillian Coulthard (119 England caps) as an option, and would also perhaps do a lot to bring a community identity alongside the Belles. Worth noting that Coulthard was also the first Doncaster player inducted into the Football Hall of Fame, the only other being another Belles player; Karen Walker.

Certainly more fitting for this list than Keegan or Ben Parkinson who though both deserving of town recognition aren't connected with the town's football teams.

I've added both Coulthard and Bader to the poll.  Anyone who submitted a vote can change their mind if they wish.

Just voted, and I've gone for names with more of a talking point about them.  The reason for this dates back to my first ever trip to Headingley as a kid with my Dad to watch Yorkshire play.  Soaking in the atmosphere and the size of the ground, I spotted the name on one of the stands.  "Dad, who is Len Hutton", I said, and this bloke behind me said to my Dad, "What are you doing bringing a lad here and not telling him all about the history?", and then went into a 20 minute potted history including 10 minutes on Hutton.

Thats why I voted for the names I did - when some youngster says "Dad, who is Charlie Williams?" I'd like to think the knowledge will be passed on.

I also corrected the spelling of Glyn(n) Snodin and changed Alick Jeffrey to AJ Snr.
Don't want anyone to think they're voting for some 90's Commercial Manager!!!

And Clarkson is from Donny! Maybe we should have the smoking bubbles named after him?  ;)

May be we should invite him to officially open them!

Seeing as though the keepmoat is 'new' i think the names shouldn't be from our far past history tbh.

On name that is deserving to be on the list, but isn't, is SO'D.

John Ryan could end up with everything named after him, so i wouldn't name a bar after him!

Sean O'Driscoll (very successful manager)
James Hayter (promotion goal)
Francis Tierney (promotion goal)

I'd advise we keep away from....

A) anyone still at the club in any capacity.
B)  anyone still able to play against us.

Saves potential embarrassment later.

Having seen the mock up photo's of the new bars, the one thing that spoils the appearance is being surrounded by the awful grey breeze block walls.

Can we organise a painting session to get a bit of colour in to the concourse areas?

Disappointed that Lewis Guy didn't make the cut.

Also no surprise to see Sir John and Sir Francis leading the way! Great stuff.

Slightly disappointed with how the voting seems to be going, I have to say. Firstly, as the founder of DRFC, Albert Jenkins has to be recognized. Secondly, I'd like to invite opinion on giving the names a traditional English pub theme. My suggestions are; The Snod Inn, Tierney Tavern, The Albert Arms.... just an idea.

How about "legend and viking' theme?

Ie. 'SO'Ds Ship'?

'Hayter's Horned Helmet' is probably a no go though...

Jeremy Clarkson? You must be joking!

JR deserves more recognition than just naming a bar after him, maybe a statue outside the ground?

I would hope we could retain our link to the non commercial and fondly remembered Belle Vue.
Also not on the list.

Belle Vue Bar sounds right

I agree entirely that JR should have a stand named after him and should not have even been on the list as for Coultard .....good call.
Some think that Bader and Parkinson should not be on the list , however I believe they represent the finest that our 'community' has to offer. I can't think of any town that could name 2 like these that reflect the northern grit and determination that all our children and therefore future fans should aspire to. The fact that they haven't played for the club is an irrelevance , neither has Polypipe and they have a stand named safter them!!

How about Syd's Saloon, Bader's Bar and Parkinsons ?
The idea that JR, Keegan and bloody Clarkson should be on this list is ridiculous. The first because he should have a stand named after him, the second because he has shown little or no interest in the club when he could have helped us in our need and the third well ..........we could name some bogs after him :)

Erm, shall we just let this thread run it's course, take note of the criticisms and run an amended poll?

For me lose Clarkson, JR and any existing player who might still play against us in future.

I don't understand why it'd be wrong to name a bar after an existing player?

I agree with removing Clarkson and John Ryan though (for 2 very different reasons). I think they should be replaced by Sean O'Driscoll (as much as some wont like it) and Dave Penney...

Rovers Return.......as a decorator yourself, would it be possible to organise volunteers along with more of your decorating fraternity, to paint the concourses under supervision from yourselves.

If the club could contact Johnstones, (after all we did win their 'tin pot paint pot trophy') I'm sure they could be persuaded to stump up a few gallons of their finest at a greatly reduced price.

To have the concourses looking how we'd like them would be a great incentive for volunteers.

Just a thought.

No offense to anyone, but people had plenty of time to suggest names in the previous thread. The options have been taken from those suggestions, regardless of if some of you think they shouldn't be on the poll or not.

For instance, I would say JR should have a bar named after him, AS WELL AS a stand.

Dave Penney and SOD have been added to the list for those who may want to vote for them too.

Personally I can't believe anyone in their right mind would name anything after Clarkson at the Keepmoat, but each to their own...
