I wish the club would adopt that as a flag design ... AND make them available in the shop and ONLINE . I love the feeling of being draped in one of those ..

Yep, I didn't think any self respecting viking would be clean shaven. That might not be quite right though. A bit too pointy.

PS. I still think we could make more of the Viking image, in terms of pre-match and branding.

Entrance music. Our wizkids on the music score made a pretty decent stab of coming up with Viking themed music.

Similar to those signs that greet the players when they enter the field "Welcome to Valhalla" accompanied by some pyrotechnics as they come out of the tunnel.

We now have Eric the Viking of course. It's all pantomime but it's a show, it's entertainment.

May be the shop could sell a line of Viking horned hats, capes and shields?  Bend a Vuvuzela a bit and you've got a Viking horn to blow !!

What about the opening track of Led Zep III as the entrance music? Name totally escapes me... That's all about Vikings... And it rocks like a mother. Ahh Ahhhh ahhhhhh ah.

Immigrant Song!

Don't change the badge at all! I personally (being non-biased) think our badge is one of the best looking in the whole of English football! I don't like the idea of changing a badge/crest at all, it's our identity!

I also don't think there is anything wrong with the badge as it already is. I'm all for new ideas and tinkering but on this, I don't feel there is any need.

It is a fair point but it's also worth pointing out there have been several versions of the viking badge down the years.

As I said, I was just tinkering, I've always felt the shield wasn't quite right and the thing could be a bit sharper but that's just me. This is where I got it to last night and I've put it next to what I think is the latest version.

I like that RD, subtle change but very effective. Not that I have an issue with the current badge of course, although I'm not sure which is our actual badge?

This one that is used on the shirts:

Or this one which the club use on promotion posters and the website etc:

Being a bit picky here but Vikings never had wings on their helmets or horns as they have in many a Hollywood film.

From what I know, they had quite a lot of horn!!

Is there no way of incorporating pillaging into our symbol

http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Doncaster_Rovers/Doncaster_Rovers.htm

There are a selection of Rovers badges on that web page. The 1996 one was a bit crap.

Dimples, I reckon a Viking shield would probably have been round as well and an axe might have been more appropriate than a sword.

Never mind, I think the winged helmet has been a distinctive part of the Rovers emblem for so long now you wouldn't want to change it.

Yeah I agree mate.. I always thought that Rovers' 'Viking' looks like Asterix the Gaul.

Our badge was actually voted as one of the most ugly a few seasons back. I like it.

Does the VSC still own the rights to the Viking logo?

It was the supporter's club that obtained the rights to it when Richardson was doing his worst, hence that Thundercats abomination we had for one season.  Not sure if the rights were given back to the club or not.

Just a pedantic point on the shield. Wouldn't the Vikings have had round shields? I think the current one is more of a medieval design. But I could be wrong.

Thanks Rob - I couldn't remember if it was the Supporters' Club or VSC. I just recall it was Andy Liney and I thought it all happened right at the birth of the VSC.

The last I heard, the club was given permission to use the logo free of charge but I don't know what happened after that.

Correct.

Here is a version based on more historically accurate viking garb. I know it looks a bit like something from DC comics but I based that roughly on photos of genuine viking artifacts. You can see why it might have caused a bit of a stir when this lot rocked up on the River Don...

Well I'm pretty sure the copyright is up for renewal this year so I assume it will be copyrighted to Doncaster Rovers.
