Gary Woods was barely good enough for us this season at best. He is not good enough at all.

Lee Camp would be a great signing in my opinion.

Camp has experience at this level, so could be as good as any of the other options, given Sullivan's age now.

Woods is "a confidence player". Which is basically a euphemism for "shit", and all the positivity in the world won't make shit smell any better. I think I finally came to this realisation when people started praising Woods every time he caught a ball. When catching the bloody ball is such a rarity that when you do it it's seen as an improvement worthy of praise, you have to consider that he's just not good enough. We won the league despite him this year, and all credit has to go to the rest of the squad for offering so much protection. I've never seen a keeper in a Rovers jersey have it so easy for so long like Woods did this season.

Anyway, Camp would be amazing, but surely he's destined for better things than us. Coup of the season if we nabbed him but can't see it sadly. Hopefully that Fielding from Derby is more realistic.

I will be extremely surprised if we sign Camp would expect his wage demands to be too much and I would expect him to sign for a top championship side.

Macho, "confidence player" means he can play well, but not all the time. Not that he is "shit".  The consensus seems to be that he isn't good enough, but that doesn't make him "shit".

He is shit. I genuinely think he is the worst professional footballer in the land. Certainly the worst goalkeeper.

As mucho pointed out, there was an audible sigh of relief on the rare occasion he successfully caught the ball. When that happens, you know you're in trouble.

Camp would be an amazing signing and we would think he was ten times better than he is, given what we're now used to.

Woods won't be a league Pro by the time he's 25.

My point was that "confidence player" is basically a meaningless catch-all term that people often use to defend shit players for some reason. Case in point, Gary Woods.

I don't really care anymore as he's not our player, and I'm all for being positive and getting behind the lads - never booed Woods at a match or anything - but you just have to draw a line at some point and Woods was way, way beyond that line. Says it all that year old Neil Sullivan, who had his first match back when the missing link were a nipper, coming into replace Woods was met with widespread relief.

I would expect GW's level to be in a struggling league one side next year.

Someone like Bristol City for example?
http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/155105-gary-woods/

Pretty much. They will be re-shuffling their deck following relegation, so I imagine will be looking for consolidation this year. Besides its only a trial, that doesn't mean he is getting a contract. He will find his level.

Find it interesting that Bristol City and judging by that thread a lot of their fans, are quite happy to be signing our sub-standard rejects especially when a few seasons ago that we were both looking at the same players (Kilkenney for example) we normally lost out and they were almost Ipswich-like in their arrogance that we were any sort of competition for them.

As for Woods, I won't miss him.  He didn't command his area, struggled catching crosses and really, really struggled with long shots.  Playing behind our defence this season will help him land another deal as the statistics say he played 40+ games and won a Championship medal.  Anyone who saw some of his dreadful meek performances knows otherwise.

According to free press they are in for him as well same as Ipswich, I hope he gets himself fit and does well somewhere after all the bad luck he had here.

IDM - the link I put up to the Bristol forum clearly states 'one of the keepers' we have on trial'

boro - their fans will certainly not be happy with a season of consolidation, they expect to be challenging for the top of the league and signing players who will be at that level

Wilts- I would be suprised if they consider him in that category if that's their aim. I thought they were riddled with debt and were having to basically do the same as us, rebuilding and starting fresh.
