Leeds away, organised boycott?
« on October 12, 2013, 04:56:29 pm by Boomstick »
Just an idea, could the vsc organise an official fans boycott for the game away to Leeds?
In support of the twenty's plenty campaign. 36 pounds is just damn right scandalous  :headbang:.

Yeah it's expensive but it's the same for every team that goes there and they aren't the only team that has expensive tickets in this league, boycotting wouldn't be a very good way to support the team.

It's not just about supporting the team, it's about football slowly dying. There is a bigger picture to worry about I think.
Surely to show that amount of apathy in that no other club has done it, won't change anything. Why can't Rovers be the first? why can't Rovers make the first stand?

We're not in any position to organise an 'official' fan's anything. I believe as an organisation we generally support the Twenty's Plenty aim and campaign.

For the VSC to decide anything it would have to be raised at a Board Meeting. As a member, you can suggest what it is you'd like the VSC to do and we can put it on the agenda.

I agree I think football ticket prices are too expensive but I think it would also be slightly pathetic organising a boycott if it was just rovers fans doing it.

So if you think £20 is plenty then do you intend to boycott all away grounds that charge over £20. Leeds are not the dearest tickets for away fans. I know Ipswich charge some away fans £37.

Is it not £30 to get in at Reading next week for Rovers fans? I know they are charging Rovers fans more than some clubs, including Leeds who played there recently. Speaking with a mate that went, they were charged £26.

Reading is £30 if you pay on the day I think but it's about £25/£27 if you buy them in advance I think.

Still too much. I've cut back on away games even more this season. It's about value for money and football isn't giving that anymore.

I liked Oslo's bag of 1p's idea.

£36 is a joke. I'd support an official boycott 100%.

I agree about the cost of away tickets. Far too excessive in some cases considering when you also have to pay for family.

Copied the following from Wikipedia.........

One penny and two pence coins are legal tender only up to the sum of 20p; this means that it is permissible to refuse payment of sums greater than this amount in 1p and 2p coins in order to settle a debt

Leeds fans put a lot of money into our club when they sold Keepmoat out, Leeds fans also don't like the prices and have kept away from Elland road. I would love to go but I am not paying that price  but I am not going to protest about it.

I agree in the main. I think there are many who have carried out their own personal boycott of matches already, and will continue to do so. It would be 'cheap' to suggest a boycott when I have no intention of going anyway BUT I would support a campaign if we if we did it in the right way. Other clubs may follow, they may not but I think it will capture support from far and wide.

I would support something where we gathered en masse at the Keepmoat on the day, and but come coffers back in to our own club, who in the main, are doing things the right way. I'm more than happy see good numbers of away fans come to Doncaster because we charge a fair price and treat people well.

The VSC is not a dictatorship so is in no position to enforce a boycott but, I'm sure could discuss the issue with the club to put things in place to support a day of action if there was enough backing for it.

Not really the club's place to get involved in supporter protests etc and may in fact have repercussions either from other clubs or the FL.

The VSC is the perfect vehicle to support and organise a protest.

Sorry that came out wrong, I was suggesting we talk the club about opening a bar and poss having live radio commentary rather than directly supporting a boycott.

In my humble opinion, which is probably worth three quarters of not very much, the VSC should protest at the Leeds ticket prices - in comparison to what their fans will pay at the KM -but leave it up to individual fans to boycott the game if they so wish. As I shall be doing, but then again its easier for me to do when I live 250 miles away.

whilst it would appear that there is no serious appetite to organise an official boycott driven by the vsc, there will be significant numbers of rovers not attending due to price anyway.

conversely, there will be a healthy following at middlesborough - due to the attractive prices, even though its on a Friday night and on sky.

Perhaps some sort of press release from the VSC?

During the Wednesday game Paul Walker couldn't understand why there weren't many travelling fans for a local derby.

It was only later on the phone in when a Rovers fan pointed out the price of tickets was putting people off that the penny dropped. He admitted he had no idea what the ticket price was.

So a statement to the press from the VSC explaining the situation might be worthwhile.

Well if some of our members can put it to us in the members section it's something we can discuss at our next meeting.

Little bit false economy suppose as travel costs are low compared to southern games and a victory at bellend rd are priceless

The boycott wont change anything other than our team will have less support which will help leeds. I will be there along with at least 1000 other rovers fans

And if we go en masse, that will justify charging ridiculous prices.
