You are the Ref...
« on October 21, 2013, 02:11:18 pm by BigColSutherland »
Go on then, here's a teaser.

Defender has the ball, he's under pressure from a striker. So he can out-fox the attacker, the defender scoops the ball up in the air, does a couple of kick ups, a "round the world" and then heads it back to his keeper.

The keeper, spying a forward free up pitch, doesn't bother picking it up and wellies it first time, the length of the pitch, where the forward brings it down and scores.

Do you award the goal - if not, why not?

Is there some technicality in what the defender does that somehow makes it a backpass? or something like that.

You are the ref. That is not an answer that would pacify a striker who's just bagged a score.

I can tell you know, that the striker was onside. And we're at the 70 minute mark.

You arn't allowed to use a deliberate trick (around the world in this case) on to your head to pass back to keeper, something like that anyways

Spot on fella. Weirdest rule I've heard of:

"If a player uses a deliberate trick while the ball is in play to pass the ball to his own goalkeeper with his head, chest, knee, etc. in order to circumvent the Law, irrespective of whether the goalkeeper touches the ball with his hands or not. The offence is committed by the player in attempting to circumvent both the letter and the spirit of Law 12 and play is restarted with an indirect free kick"

And he gets a booking.

You shouldn't award the goal. Reason being all refs are Kitsons!

We played on Sunday..

Opposition had the ball on the centre spot, ready to take the kick off for the second half. Whistle went and a player just shot (the other opposition player stood with him didnt touch it). The ref allowed play to carry on and said the rules have changed now, as long as the ball goes forward from the kick off it counts. Is this correct?

Was a new one to me anyway?..

Local TV all over the Inverness corner , the first player actually played the ball without it leaving the corner quadrant , the second player than took the ball into the penalty area and after a couple of blocked shots , a goal was scored . The first player actually tells his mate , I've played the ball , there's no response from the asst ref until Cally eventually score and the goal is disallowed .

Not a pretty sight........an angry Mr Butcher !!!

OK, I'd like to see a definition of what constitutes a "deliberate trick"...

Didn't the penalty rule get changed after the Henry and Pires balls up, when one laid it off to the other to shoot ?

You can clearly hear the guy say he has taken the corner right in front of assistant ref, only thing wrong was did he touch it more than once !

Thats true.  The ball must be played forwards, and that is all that is stipulated.  What tends to happen is 2 players go up to take the kick, one playes it forwards and the 2nd player plays it backwards to retain possession.

Simples.

There is nothing to stop a player hitting it first time from a kick off and attempting to score.

you can shoot direct from kick off, as long as ball goes forward.

Can you be offside when the keeper kicks out of his hands? I'm assuming you can, i know you can't be from a goal kick.

In the summer we were at a tournament and the opposition took a throw in and it sailed into our box nobody touched it and our goalkeeper let it go. The ball rolled into the net........the ref went to award a goal.  :saywhat: The opposition players began to celebrate!! If it wasn't for my protests, some of our boys who had just passed their referee exams and to be fair the honesty of the opposing manager he would have awarded the goal. ITS A GOAL KICK REF.  :crying:

Can't be offside from a throw or goal kick, you'd have a job being offside from a corner

Is it true you can't be offside if you're on the other side of the by-line before the pass is struck (and on a similar note, not be able to play someone offside if you're stood on that side)?

I have a random one in my head that you can't score an OG from your own free kick - is that right? So if you have a free kick, knock it back to your keeper, he misses it and it goes in then its a corner?

The inability to be offside from a goalkick is one that a few of our fans need to learn!

If its an indirect free-kick.  It has to touch another player before a goal can be scored
