To be fair they'll pay him in 6 moths more than we'd pay in 24.

Why don't we get players signed up before their contracts are up? Tommy Spurr all over again. I said it then and ill say it now, we are not a well run/efficient club in terms of contracts

It shouldn't have even come to this, contract should have been signed weeks/months ago way before January

Whose to say we haven't offered him a contract or tried to offer him a contract before now?

If only it were so simple. It seems both Wellens and Spurr were offered contracts in time, but players and especially agents will always wait until the last moment to see if anything more lucrative is around the corner

IMHO nothing the club could have done.

The club were telling us they had offered Spurr a deal, Spurr was saying the complete opposite and that nothing had been presented

Dickov said only last week that he had yet to sit down with Wellens about a new deal. Shocking really with him out of contract the following week.

Fair enough didn't hear that.

But still, I would find it hard to imagine that preliminary discussions haven't taken place, perhaps Wellens made it clear he didn't want anything offered until January to keep his options open? Too much ifs and buts to start jumping to conclusions...

Don't see Wellens claiming he had no offer from the club?

Let's move on and see what happens in the remaining 90+% of the transfer window

Offer him a contract weeks ago simple.

We don't know that they didn't.  If his agent knew QPR were interested he'd tell him to hold off signing to see if any offers forthcoming so he can get a pay day from him again.

So that must mean Tommy was lying eh?

And that must mean that Richie wasn't holding out for one last pay day eh...

If you remember he hardly jumped at the chance to sign for us in the summer until he was "promised" more money in January.

So now we're expected to offer contracts to match those that QPR can?  Even with the so called investment that everyone goes on about, QPR level wages would still be too much.

If Richie leaves, good luck to him.  If he stays, great.

When negotiating a new contract it takes two people Ii may have been Richie who was waiting for a better deal. If he as gone we use the money or the suppose 18 month contract to get a replacement, that will show the clubs ambition. Richie will have wanted a good pay day if we offered him a 18 month contract and QPR have, then let's get him back on season long loan next year.

Hey, but it's ok. As long as we don't spend too much money and are 'sustainable'.
Of course, Wellens himself said in November he didn't know what would be happening now JR had gone and the takeover deal was dead

All ifs and buts but I wouldn't expect TB/DW to pay the wages of the likes of QPR.  If he goes good luck to the lad.

Its football guys, there's always a richer or bigger club than us
