Where the hell did they fly to. Tenerife ( sth) so hardly surprising they stopped.
So, its a gripe is it?. As far as I can see on Ryanair website that's the only destination, now is that a commercial hub? or holiday type area, if the latter, how many of the 130( or so ) seats were filled on each flight?. Most folk going would travel with the likes of Thompson / Jet2 / etc. So hardly surprising they pulled route.
Frosty, you've been saying this stuff for years. What's your problem with the airport?!
I for one am glad it was built. Flew from there a couple of times. The last time was a stag do to Amsterdam. Was very convenient for us - Thorne to Amsterdam in the space of 3 hours. Let's hope it stays open and more flights return soon
other local airports such as Leeds, Humberside and East Midlands are actually growing, two of them on a large scale.

The business market will never be served.Which ones are growing?CAA figures state that for 2012 v 2011 East Midlands dropped 3.3%, Leeds grew by 0.5% and Humberside dropped 14.7% (Doncaster dropped 15.7%)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Busiest_airports_in_the_United_Kingdom_by_total_passenger_trafficI don't really understand your personal beef with it - it's there, use it if you want, or don't - the choice is yours. In my opinion it's never going to really take-off* until it gets a direct link into a major hub such as Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt. However it seems that the powers that be are intent on expanding Heathrow or Gatwick and forcing everyone to travel hundreds of miles to start their journeys, rather than promoting the use of local airports.*Did you see what I did there?
Routes are irrelevant - you can add as many routes as you like, if they don't get used then the airlines will pull the service.SOme interesting info HERE on how aviation has changed over the last 100 years - in 1914 there were 1,200 air tickets sold, by 2013 it was 2,945,448,937 ie nearly 3 billion.
Not strictly on topic, but tonight I got to work (on the Business Park where Sheffield Airport used to be), waiting for the car park barriers to go up and some distraught Polish guy came running up to me, looking for Sheffield Airport as he was late for his flight. I felt pretty bad telling him that Sheffield Airport is actually near Doncaster and he was about 40 minutes drive from it. I've got a feeling he probably didn't make his plane.
