So because of the Doncastrian lives lost in the 2 world wars we should still hate the Germans?

The point is, why should we label fans of Nottinghamshire based clubs as scabs just because some miners in that region were not on strike over 30 years ago??

Fair enough not to forget, but don't blame the existing supporters..

Some things are fine as football banter, others cross a line.. This does, on my opinion..

Never forget. But you seem to have forgotten Esdailles. Either that or you want to pick and choose the bits of history you want to apply that rule too.

There are a lot of people in the Doncaster area who have scabs in the families if you want to go back far enough. Are you from Askern, Bentley, Hatfield of Haworth? Did you relatives work at Markam Main or Yorkshire Main? What did your relatives do in 1926? Which side were they on? Did they scab or did they stop out?

Farmers protested at rates increased in October in order to provide funds for relief and by this time, miners at Askern, Bentley, Markham Main, Hatfield, Harworth, Bullcroft and Yorkshire Main were working. Nationally, a quarter of the miners had returned to work but at Rossington there was no change. A “disorderly incident” was reported in Rossington on 1 October when a motor van bringing safety workers from Armthorpe pit was stoned by a large crowd. On 22 October the owners “threw open” Rossington pit and between 80 and 90 men signed on to begin work. The terms offered were the same as was being applied elsewhere in South Yorkshire which was a 7.5-hour day and a reduction to the piece workers’ percentage to 6.1. The Strike Relief Fund, which had been loaning cash to feed families, ran out of cash and 50,000 more men nationally returned to work. The Rector of Rossington lamented the sad result of the bitter feelings he observed at the Armistice services in November. An article was published in the Doncaster Chronicle on 12 November entitled “Rossington’s Double”. It stated that a “piquant position” had arisen with two sets of officials representing the miners. One looked after the interests of those who had gone back to work on the terms offered by the Sheepbridge Coal and Iron Co and the other, the recognised officials of the Yorkshire Miners’ Association, was concerned with the men who are still on strike. About 400 men were said to be at work and that the management could not deal separately with each man on matters like house rent stoppages, repayment of relief, the doctors’ fund, and the pick sharpening fund.

Thus ended 1926, with the miners failing to bring the owners to their knees. 250,000 miners did not get their jobs back as the stoppage had disrupted Britain’s trade. Foreign competitors had availed themselves of the golden opportunity presented by the strike. Many pits had to close because they were uneconomic to run.

To me, a scab is someone who works in defiance of a vote to strike. Therefore, the only people who could have been scabs during the Miner's Strike were those who worked in the areas that voted to strike - which does not include Nottinghamshire, who did not vote to strike so could not defy that vote by working. I suggest Esdaille look a lot closer to home for people to call scabs.

Indeed glyn - the fact that King Arthur refused to even hold a vote, because he knew he'd lose it, says quite a lot about the unofficial strikers who chose to act without the consent of their colleagues and their union....

Esdaille man. There weren't any scabs. There couldn't be. There was no vote for a strike so there was nothing to break.

There was a National ballot a few years earlier over a proposed incentive scheme, the Notts miners would get massive bonus's if the svheme was accepted, the National ballot voted by a big majority to reject the scheme. The Notts miners went against the ballot result and negotiated their own incentive scheme locally. The Notts Miners had a history of going against the National ballot result right back to the General strike in 1926. The scab is not a legacy of the 1984 strike, it goes back further than that. The fact was the Notts miners could never be trusted to observe a result of a National ballot if it did n't suit them

Are you seriously trying to suggest that Scargill didn't call a National strike ballot because he didn't trust the Notts miners to accept the result?

You say they have a scab legacy, but I've never heard of them strikebreaking. I'd be interested in knowing the history of that.
