It’s running off topic here again and I’d like to return to discussing Marquis.
I’m not fond of criticising any of our players but I really do not rate Marquis as an effective player and I’m astonished after the ‘player of the season’ accolade he earned last season, the battle we had to secure his signature for this term and the probable big pay increase he got.  What has happened to him this season?  I promise you I’d really like to watch his arrogant strutting, chest out goal celebrations again but it hasn’t happened much has it?   Instead we watch a moaning, arm waving, petulant player who cannot hold the ball up well or control it properly and shoots weakly when presented with a chance and most of the goals he gets are goalmouth scrambles.  Added to this and it would really annoy me, if I was an opposing player,  are his deceitful falling over and injury feigning practices; although yesterday this got the penalty for us but I would have found it a hollow victory had this been the only score of the game.  I really wish he’d improve, it’s been embarrassing watching him play this season.
Good luck!
Well your entitled to your opinion of course, but all Marquis is doing wrong is not scoring as frequently as maybe he should.
His work rate is phenomenal, plays a full 90 + mins in almost every match.
I don’t know how he keeps that work rate going match after match.
He is far less petulant than he was earlier in the season. Doesn’t argue with the ref any more.
So I think your post Donny Dub is way off the mark.

I do get annoyed by Marquis waving his arms about every time a ball isn't stuck on his toe end, but I can't fault his work rate. His problem is that he doesn't have a reliable partner. If he did he could be another Fortune-West. But where is his Gregg Blundell? In May he has a lad who works hard but can't finish.

Williams has no future here and I'm increasingly convinced Mandeville hasn't one either (under Fergie anyway). Kiwomya might be the answer, but unless he is we're not going to make best use of Marquis. Remember, he's never scored many above League Two. I'm not sure Leo did either but he was still effective.

Permit me to suggest that you may be over-estimating your own importance in thinking that you’re well-balanced and finely-argued criticisms might influence the club or players. Although you might be right. Who knows?

What I do know is that I, personally, see football supporting as a pursuit that demands a certain level of irrational optimism. Not blind faith, obviously, because that would be stupid. But a hope that better rather than worse outcomes will occur. That’s why we stay for the last ten minutes at 0-2. Because...if we could just grab a goal now...

Frankly, I cannot see any point in following a football team if you discount the positives and accentuate the negatives as several people on here seem to do. That seems like a thoroughly self-flagellatory existence. Life chucks enough shite at you and for most people, Football is a chance to bathe in a bit of optimism. Like I say, if it’s not serving that purpose then what on Earth is the point?

You're wrong about the first point. Having some involvement with getting the Black Bank going, i had some (fleeting) relations with people at the club. I know for a fact they monitor what people are saying across all platforms. What degree this affects decision making I honestly don't know but its integrated into how we operate.

No real quarrels with the 2nd point but let's face it, although it should be like that, the keepmoat is full of people shouting obscenities and 'get it forward' every other week. It doesn't appear to be the fount of optimism for most people. My point was about making a distinction between criticism for the sake of it and making constructive criticism. The latter doesn't necessarily have to equate with negativity.

I'm not sure saying a first half performance was the worst you'd seen in years can be seen to be constructive mate.
Especially when we then went on to win that very game

It was the worst half performance in years. Fergie, I imagine was saying similar, I don't think he was saying well done lads. Even your old mate BST above said he was starting to have serious doubts about the manager after.

Sometimes the severity of the criticism has to be more intense. That doesn't necessarily make it any less constructive.

What's constructive about it?

What's constructive about it?

Perhaps they logged on to the world wide web at half time and the comments spurred them on to victory.

Pretty facetious thing to say.

What's constructive about it?

You actually mean what was positive about it. Nothing was positive about. But theres nothing instrinsically constructive about being positive either, that seems be a critical point you're missing.

It was a statement of fact/opinion, it really wasn't meant to be read beyond that. Do you think in some mad world I think Darren Ferguson reads and responds to every post individually? Or that people sometimes don't just post things on here for a bit of a discussion?

You said your negativity was constructive, I don't feel it was

"Whenever i personally make a critical post i do it with the best of intentions, in the hope it has some resonance for the club or the player. To live in a world free of constructive criticism would be a completely lifeless experience"

Go on then, point out exactly where in that quote it says 'my' negativity was constructive and I'll give you 5 euros.

Did you put to live in a world free of constructive criticism or did you put to live in a world free of criticism
