Whiteman
« on January 08, 2018, 06:14:43 pm by Retdon1 »
Blades have tonight agreed a fee to sign midfield lee Evans from wolves, which adds to the signing of Ryan Leonard from Southend so hopefully this means we can have whiteman back.

DF said he was going to speak with Wilder today. Let's hope Wilder's in a good mood! 😉

If we could get Whiteman back on a permanent then Houghton later too we would have two very good players on which to build our Championship squad hopes .

I agree, Brian. Book your flight over here in time for the next Board meeting and have a word in their ears!

If Ben comes back would it be a permanent or just an extension to the end of this season.

If Blades have signed both Evans and Leonard, both midfielders  that may enable them  release BW permanently .

Ferguson referred to the prospect of the Blades letting him go on a permanent, and the worry of other clubs then nipping in given that he went on to say we have no money to do anything in this window.

I agree there must be a fee involved but instead of missing the boat the club could /should invest in him NOW since at season's end we may well be offloading such big earners as Williams , Alcock and maybe Copps so moving to buy Whiteman now would be smart.

At the end of this season is my recollection from a DF interview a few months ago.

So, if he came to us in the summer we wouldn’t have to pay a fee then, or is there a rule that says we would because of his age.

I’m sure DF would love to buy Whiteman now and it would be a canny investment but Sheff Utd won’t sell him. Wilder rates him highly and even if he’s not likely to play much per there for the rest of the season the only way he’ll be coming back is on loan.

If his contract is up there and he’s offered a new deal, but he opted to sign for us or someone else, they would be due a fee decided by a tribunal. If not offered a new contract, he’d be free to move for nothing.

I would have thought if anything it would be another loan. If he were to make their squad in January he can't play for anyone else.

If, Blades will consider offers for a permanent transfer, then maybe he's not as much of a bright prospect as Wilder led us to believe.

That said, if they are open to offers then DF will have to make a case. Whether some of the funds earmarked for Houghton are still available, who knows? Well Blunt, GB and DF will know of course!

Copps’ and Butler’s contracts expire at the end of this season, but I think both are worth an extra year. Williams, although he’s never let us down,  will surely move on at the end of his contract. I think we’d have tried to move him on in this window had he not got injured.

I agree with Brian that investing in young players with promise would be a wise move for the future of the club. Houghton and Whiteman both fall into that bracket. Although I think Whiteman, in particular, has a lot to learn, his seven goals show what promise he has. It’s not looking as if he’ll get a look in at Sheffield United so he may as well look to move.

He has potential and Wilder always said he wanted to have a good look at him in pre season next and take things from ythere but that was all before the Blades got into promotion contention and more importantly before these two imports of Evans and Leonard of course // so

Whiteman would cost a fee anyway due to his age, I'm sure.

Only if Blades offer him a deal and he turns them down for us.

We would not get him on a permanent deal until the summer as S.U.
will not sell now. They may let him go permanent in the summer for a fee as he is under 24. As S.U. Have brought in these 2 new players i think we may get him back on loan.
In the Summer Etheridge, Alcock, Williams and I would imagine one two or three others will be released freeing up some funds for new signings.
Whiteman is going to be a very good player, worth forking out £150.000 in my opinion if that’s needed to get him. That’s only 3 grand a week don’t forget and can be built into the budget.
Williams must be on £5000.
We will need a quality striker as well unless Kiwomya turns out to be the goal scorer we are crying out for.

I understand that if BW were to play for Blades in any game that would preclude the possibility of him playing for a third club this season under the new rules . Does that include an appearance on the team sheet i.e as a sub on the bench ?

If we can manage to get him back I believe it will be a loan. Cannot see us buying him even if we could.
