NEWS | Saturday's game against Bury has been postponed due to safety reasons.
Club Doncaster staff had worked throughout Thursday and Friday to clear the Club Doncaster Sports Village car parks and inner ring road, as well as clear snow and ice from within the stadium itself.
EFL appointed referee Richard Wigglesworth carried out a pitch inspection on Friday afternoon and deemed the pitch playable, but after discussions with the safety advisory group, South Yorkshire Police and the EFL the game has been postponed
Club Doncaster’s head of operations Marie Hepburn said: “I’d like to thank all the staff who have been out doing everything they can to get the game ahead, with people from every department within the club willing to put in time and effort to clear the stadium site and pitch.
“Unfortunately, despite all that work, we simply couldn’t guarantee the safety of everyone attending which is the top priority for us. There is further adverse weather forecast overnight and on Saturday morning, and we were only left with one option.”
A re-arranged date and kick-off time will be announced in due course.

Yeah, from the standing point of not wanting to miss my weekly football fix, I'm disappointed. But practically speaking, considering how cold it is to sit in, and the fact we have a few injuries at the moment (plus Bury are in form) it might suit us to not play this game til later in the season. I just hope it isn't put in a spot where there's already loads of games in a short space of time.

I wonder what the safety concerns are. I drove past the KM about an hour ago and everything looked great. Really thought the game was going to be on. Has to be concerns with fans travelling to game.

Such a shame after all planning and promoting of ‘Women to the Game’ initiative.

ah well, looks like I'll have to get sprawled out on the settee in front of the fire watching Jeff Stelling while sparing a thought for all the mugs who are out in this bloody horrendous weather.

... and just think if things go incredibly well for your Super6 selections you might get 4 Points !

I think it will be more to do with the home and away travelling fans, who do deserve consideration.
It also highlights the fact that we would have wasted money having undersoil heating given the other factors that come into play.
I hope Barnsley and other clubs have not wasted too much electric in the last few days.

Video from the M66 near Bury. Not surprised it's been called off if they're having to travel through that.

Yep thinking of doing the same although they might not be too many games left on to have a bet on

It's been chucking it down here near Birmingham since about 2pm. If it's heading Donny way, you can expect lots of snow overnight and tomorrow.

If the Scunthorpe v Oldham game goes ahead tomorrow, and our pitch was fit to play, it makes one wonder who has actually called the game off.
If the Lincolnshire police are happy why not South Yorkshire, it would lay a lie to being bothered about traffic on the M62, and away supporters travelling.
I am not saying the game should be played, just wondering what the difference is.

I might be doing them a disservice but they don't seem to have considered whether the away fans can get there.

What makes me laugh is that the Premier league games seem to always be on. Do their players & supporters use different (safer) roads & footpaths to those in the lower leagues. If the pitch is playable & the surrounding infrastructure is clear then the game should go ahead.

That proves what I said earlier, if we really wanted the game on, with the forecast for tomorrow of only a chance of light snow, we could have played.
I cannot see the EFL thinking that Scunthorpe can play,  but Doncaster Cannot, so it must be either us or the Police, and it looks like we have put a lot of work into trying to play.
Makes you wonder about how hard Scunthorpe wanted to play when they cancelled at the last moment the other season when the pitch looked OK.

Let's be honest, with all the injuries, and Bury's good form, we didn't  really want this game to be played. If I were a Bury fan, I'd feel a bit miffed about this.

At least it was called off with plenty of notice. Having said that if Scunthorpe goes ahead some questions need to be asked. All the perimeters to the stadium have been cleared. So is the problem the M62 and the Bury team and supporters travel? I don’t buy all that nonesence on that statement announced.

Exactly. The weather may be 'ok' at the moment but even now, it's not great for watching football with freezing high winds. That's before we get the next deterioration overnight, when speculation would start again in the morning.

Early decision, everyone knows what's what, no sleep lost. Just hope they rearrange the women at the game for another day.

The police have advised that the game should be cancelled.

That should be good enough

I know people love their Football (apart from last Saturday) but really is there any point in trying to play games when they can fairly easily be played at a later date with minimal "risk" to anyone ?

Alternative - play tomorrow and risk injury to Bury and Rovers fans either travelling to or from the game or at the Game

Then there are the Players - and surely we would not want to risk any more injuries

Its a no brainer to call it off - surely ?

Not sure really what difference makes for any other fixtures..  It has been decided our game is off for safety reasons, despite the pitch being OK..

So be it,.

Good news for me because I was going to miss the game for family reasons!
And surely good news for Bury fans because their journey would have been somewhere between horrendous and impossible.

Problem is the m62 is still closed and the routes to the m1 from Stockport are closed as well at the minute with no sign of them reopening
