I can't believe Lehmann knew nothing about it, Bancfoft is contracted to play County Cricket this summer, surely he's not going to be allowed now?

Me neither .... and the Bowlers must have known as well

I mean - come on they have a Player designated JUST to keep shining the balls - so surely any Bowler would be "in" on it too

There is not one bowler who has played the game at a decent level who has not tried to do something to the ball.

I think Smiths presser was full of crocodile tears, and I'm sick of hearing they made a mistake, they did n't, they meant to do it, how can that be a mistake?

I wonder if they made a mistake when they were sledging Jonny Bairstow about his dad’s suicide. The bunch of Kitsons.

Yet Warner was a bit annoyed with de kock, when he sledged him about his wife getting serviced by Sony Bill Williams. That Warner is a total arsehole

I am surprised by the level of sympathy that is now being directed towards Smith, particularly by the media. If the ball-tampering was a one-off incident I might have some sympathy. But the behaviour of the Australian cricket team has been getting worse ever since Smith became captain.

Either he's too weak a leader to turn the culture around, or he's an integral part of it. My suspicion is the latter. I can't forget the image of him and Bancroft laughing their heads off after setting up Bairstow.

Warner might be the worst of them, but Smith was in it up to his neck.

Incidentally someone said Tim Paine, the wicket keeper, had been appointed captain because he was the only decent bloke in the side. Says a lot about Smith's team.

The tears looked real enough to me.

Cant believe they thought they could "tamper" with the Ball a) with impunity and b) without it being noticed

Sure as someone said above ever since the Game has been played there have been attempts to manipulate the Balls condition but when I started watching on TV there was one Camera at one end (only) behind the Stumps. When Bowling was from that end you saw roughly what you see now in the final few delivery strides i.e. the Bowlers back. When they changed ends you saw the Wicket keepers back and the Bowler charging towards you

The Camera followed the shot the fielding etc and that was that. It was a luxury when they added a second Camera at the opposite end

These days I dont know how many Cameras cover a game - and how many of them are searching for "random" things both on the Field and in the Crowd. Already seen Cummins let out a great yawn which was caught on Camera for whatever reason - so even without a tip off (who knows?) the Cameras could have been watching Bancroft especially if he was designated to polish the Ball and "got lucky" when he started to sandpaper it !

There are too many eyes watching everything these days to get away with anything

As the Australian ball-tampering scandal escalates, umpires admit the signs were there:

I see Warner has finally faced the media, took questions and never answered a question, just had "I'm here to take full responsibility for my actions" on loop, and threw a few crocodile tears in along the way. Out of the three press conferences from the players, Warners seemed by far to be the most fake

Agreed, this time the tears did look fake.
I also noticed the stage managed hug by his wife as he came into the room.

Lump your money on South Africa winning the next text, even the odds are 1/3 , Bancroft,Warner and Smith sent home , 3 out of the top 4 in the order. Pinching money 💰

Looks like it was pinching money. Just the Rain can save 'em by the look of it !

I've got £40 @ 8/15 ,Australia can't wait until the series is finished and they are back on home soil ,the 3 batsmen they brought in got 15 between them and the bowler Sayers is not better than an average county cricket bowler,he would do well over here in English conditions because he can swing it . It's a bit different bowling in South Africa on their hard fast tracks

South Africa are still batting 600 in front !!! With just over 4 sessions to play because they reckon most of their bowlers are injured

Can Sayers swing the ball when he isn’t packing sandpaper though?

Can't believe the ICC haven't come up with the obvious answer. It should be compulsory for one of the umpires to check the ball at the end of each over. It would take 5 seconds and could be done while the fielding side were getting into position. Sorted.

It is not all one way, batsmen have had tape that does the ball no good wrapped around their bats.
Freshly whitened pads, It is , or at least was part of the game. Its the premeditated committee, and planning, that has shocked so many who didn't realise what goes on at the top of the sport.
Most people with just a passing interest in cricket see it as a somewhat gentle game played by gentlemen.
They don't know the half of it.
