Upgrade on Houghton by the looks of it... VERY highly rated at Liverpool, Stevie G had him as his captain for the U-23’s last season, I think he knows a fair bit about centre midfielders!

Underwhelming. Why couldn’t we sign a proven player?

this lad could make you look silly Gaz, at 19 he is old enough and will have learnt from Gerrard.

Old enough for what? To buy beer?

I hope he does. Not many 19 year olds can run a L1 midfield in their first taste of league football. Massive ask, I don’t care what anyone says. There obviously wasn’t the money there to sign the experienced enforcer we need.

If the football club makes some people so unhappy why do they bother?

Maybe there wasn't the older experienced head available, maybe the manager doesn't want an older experienced head in the middle, maybe he knows exactly what he wants and this young player is exactly that. Maybe the new manager sees this player as worth a decent sum to his parent club and is prepared to pay it if he comes good on loan. I dunno how not spending money on an 'older experienced mester' tells folk there's no money! But hey-ho it is what it is!

Careful Al, you'll be called gullible and accused of arse kissing if you don't watch out.

Until he has played a few games he could be anything. Lets not rush to judge. Give the lad a chance. Experience is incredibly useful, but it is possible for a teenager to be really special. Just as examples Ray Wilkins was captain of Chelsea at 18 (In what now would be the Championship) and David Beckham did well at 19/20 with Preston before kicking on with Man U.

Why is that obvious?  Having a budget and finding players to spend it on are two different things..

And as for age and being a midfield enforcer, many of us will remember Ian Snodin when he started..

I’d have signed Woodyard from Lincoln that has gone to Peterborough.

He’s a great age, sits in front of the back line and excellent on the ball and breaks up play. Would be perfect for us.
