I know this is a DRFC football forum but for any of you who are cricket fans like me. ( My second home between April and Sept is Headingley)
Just wanted to mention I payed my first visit to Trent Bridge yesterday since the late 1980’s and I had a brilliant day. What a fabulous ground Trent Bridge is. The scoreboards (2) are so much superior to either of the Headingley ones. There is no information missing.
The announcer is so prompt and informative on all milestones during the play. The staff are so professional and polite. Everything about the place was 10/10  Even the Cricket was good!!! Gary Balance made a century which keeps Yorkshire in the game.
So if any Cricket fans haven’t been to Trent Bridge I would highly recommend they do at their earliest opportunity. I have been meaning to go for years and so pleased I did yesterday.
Next season all 4 days will be pencilled in on my calendar for the County Championship match.

I'm with you. All the changes at Trent Bridge have been for the better, yet it still seems to keep that old-fashioned cricket ground feel, maybe because the old pavilion is still centre stage.

What a fab pavilion it is. At the lunch interval there was a talk about its history.
In the First World War it was used as a military hospital. I didn’t know that.

Good point Geoff. Well I am a glass half full person so I will say yes.
Will depend on the last 3 matches against our 3 relegation rivals Lancs, Hants at home and Worcester away. It’s going to be interesting. Hold on to your seat.
If Coad and Patterson are back from injury I think that could be the deciding factor.

Come on you Whites - the only Team "based" in Leeds that I follow

Will have to pay Trent Bridge another visit as it is a while ince I went * and it looks far superior to those days and in fact looks tremendous

* Last visit was the day after Sir Geoff ran out Derek "Arkle" Randall obviously the local here. Arkle sent up his dismissal next day with maybe Graham Roope. They went onto the Wicket with and all the Crowd watching Randall shoutes YES and set off running. When he got half way down Roope ? held up his hand and shouted NO leaving Arkle to troop off head bowed

Sir Geoff duly completed a century that day - and the guy at the side of me said "thats it mate - you can start breathing again" Perception of the highest order

I went to university in Nottingham and used to get down to Trent bridge whenever I could. Favourite memory there was when Ryan Sidebottom had his mid-life crisis and signed for Notts, a Yorkshire old boy shouted at him “Sidebottom...Sidebottom...turn round and show us your front bottom!”

Lancashire’s tie yesterday was a rough result for us and gives them a bit of breathing space, but our last 3 games are against them, Hampshire and Worcestershire so still very much in our own hands.

I’ve been to Trent Bridge a few times recently (and Headingley) I love going there. Don’t like admitting that as a Yorkie I prefer going to Trent Bridge than Headingley!

I am also looking forward to watching Cricket at Darren Sammi  ground in St Lucia and Sir Viv Richards ground in Antigua this November. Don’t like missing Rovers games but some things just need to be done😊🏏🏏

I was at Headingley the day after Boycott scored his 100th hundred and...well that's it.

... and I was working the day of the 100 100s and had to make a choice of when to "bolt" for home. Unlike most of his Drives I mistimed my departure and he had done it

I also went to Headingley on the day of the George Davies is innocent protest. Armed with Sarnies etc I was on the Train and at Wakefield ladies were getting on and then they started saying (having seen the Bags) "If you are off to the Cricket its been called off "

Peoples responses included "good joke" "what?" "nice one yeah right" and "no it isnt", When we got to Leeds there it was in Black and White - Match abandoned. Oh its true said I but less politely I imagine

No Social Media or Mobiles in those days of course !

My favourite Cricket story of all time was again travelling to Leeds for a Test Match

The Ground had recently introduced a control of the amount of Alcohol you could take in. They introduced a reasonable amount Policy and stated that would be "Either 4 Pints of Beer or a Bottle of Wine". Before that the restriction was how much you could carry !

I got on the Pacer Train to Burley Park and even at 10am people were in full swing drinking. One of the people on the train was a right "hulk" not someone you would ever pick a fight with. He had what I can only describe as a Blue and White Coffin sized Ice Box with him

Hey "Hammer" (cant remember his real name) shouted a Mate - whats in the box.
Hammer says my Beer of course.
Ah but you can only take in a reasonabaly amount says his Pal.
He looks down and says but this IS a reasonable amount says Hammer
No No says his Pal you can only take in 4 Cans

10 seconds later "Hammer" opens his Cooler Box Cofffin and starts shouting his Pals and saying - here have a drink on me - and one by one giving them a Can till he had presumably 4 left

They were all shouting Cheers mate Thanks Mate Nice one Hammer etc etc - and they all got stuck in

There was a 5 to 10 second pause and then Hammer piped up - Oi and all you f*****s - dont forget you owe me a Pint when we get in ! Classic !

pmsl at the time

I was there the day Boycott scored his 100th 100 in July 1977 and also throughout the 1981 Test when Botham and Willis destroyed the Aussies. They were the most memorable days Cricket I have seen in my 55 years of watching the game from being 8 years old.

I too was at Headingley for Boycott's 100th ton. I also saw his comeback at Trent Bridge a few weeks earlier when he ground out a ton after running out Derek Randall.

I missed Headingley 1981, although I watched the last day on TV. However I was at all days of the next test, at Edgbaston, which was almost as dramatic - Botham taking five wickets to win a game that looked lost.

I always love to visit Trent Bridge. Fantastic ground.

Lots of cricket this week. Hopefully see England set up a win in the next two days on Now TV then over to Headingley on Wednesday where Yorkshire have set up the same.

Not after today’s performance. Batting very brittle again. Only kholer-Cadmore with a brilliant century and Tattersall played well. Tattersall out to a dodgy LBW.
The bowling was toothless even with the return of Coad and Patterson. Lancashire’s 1st opening stand of over 70 all season 105-0 in reply to our 209 all out. Tomorrow’s a big day!!!

Good response this morning but we will still be doing well to get anything out of this game.

If we do somehow survive this season, next season is a real worry for me. Can’t help but feeling there is some cost cutting taking place and losing Brooks is a massive blow.

Why do people think it's wrong to talk about cricket , the races , rugby league/union on this forum . Always apologising for it .

The clue is in the title " Off Topic " , personally I love all of the above and athletics .

Well to be honest apart from his first over this morning which was shocking, Jack Brooks bowled better than he has done for a very long time. So for Somerset to offer a 34 year old fast bowler a 3 year contract seemed like madness. If he can find that zip as he did today then maybe we will miss him, but I do think he is past his best now as he has shown little consistency over this and last season.
Back in the game again after Balance and Kohler-Cadmore put on over 100 for the 4th wicket.
Said today was big, tomorrow is even bigger. First session will be massive. Come on Yorkshire.

Out of interest who’s that aimed at? I can’t see a single criticism on this thread!

Back onto cricket, great response from the bowlers and another brilliant effort from Kohler- he’s rescued our last 3 innings, hope we and Ballance can put on a few more today. If we can somehow get another 150-200 runs that would put a hell of a lot of pressure on Lancashire.

Good start this morning putting on another 50 runs but Kohler-Cadmore & Ballance fell within a couple of overs of each other. Big hour before lunch now - if Tattersall & Bresnan can survive we should be pretty well set at about 200 ahead with 5 wickets left.

Got a good suntan today. Will pop over tomorrow morning, hopefully for a win that hopefully sees us in div 1 again next year and we can challenge with a more settled side.

I was at Trent Bridge about 3 or 4 years back when Yorkshire clinched the Championship.  A great ground, I think all the white seating and stands makes the ground look neat and tidy even in dull weather as opposed to Headingley which can look grim even in sunny weather.  Also try to get to Scarborough every season, although the last 2 seasons have had poor performances and some iffy weather.

Yorkshire have won. Massive victory that. With Worcestershire likely to lose to Surrey it looks like Lancashire and Worcestershire for the drop.

We play at Worcester in the last game of the season, so we could help or hinder them.

Coad was a name mentioned last winter but he was given a rest, I expect at the very least he'll be on a Lions tour this time around.

Fantastic win, especially after the first day. After last week Kyle Hogg tweeted "When we beat Yorkshire next week do we send them down?!" For some reason he's been pretty quiet today.

Also found out today that because I bought tickets for the Pakistan test this year I can get up to 4 tickets for each day of the Ashes game at Headingley next year. All in all a pretty successful day!

YOOOOOOOOOOOORKSHIRE!

He’s not quick enough for test level is he? Suck a gulf between county cricket and test cricket these days.

I thought that about Sam Curran, but he hasn't done too badly.

There are a few genuinely fast bowlers about - Jamie Overton, Olly Stone, Zak Chappell - but they are all injury prone. You need to include one of those alongside skilled fast-medium bowlers like Anderson, Broad and Woakes. Coad probably fits into that group.
