Nicholas Thom, assistant professor of engineering at Nottingham University, says that just because fewer potholes are being fixed by councils, it doesn't mean roads are improving.

"The situation's definitely worse than it was a few years ago", he says. "There's no denying that fewer are being fixed, so it's more than likely the backlog of repairs is increasing."

Bentley resident's observations proven correct although it's a bit early to start talking of community service awards.

In my simple mind - if less are getting fixed (cutbacks etc) there are surely more potholes

I e-mailed the council about the ones just before Cantley lights heading into Doncaster months ago. Still nothing has been done about them. I don't know what they spend their money on?

Only been out two minutes and look what's happened. Luckily, our lass was with me. I'm gonna contact my local MEP about this. Is it still Billy Zane?

My wife damaged a tyre and wheel in a pothole on Church Baulk last year.
We emailed the council about it and they sent us a claim form.
The hole was filled in the next morning.
When we submitted our claim form they asked us for a photo of the offending pothole but of course by the time the form arrived it had been filled in.
Because we couldn’t submit a picture they wouldn’t entertain our claim.

Do you mean they declared your claim was full of holes by filling them in?

Yep, they just smoothed it over.
