Nostell Priory 1984 - The Damned, The Band, Van Morrison, Pretenders, Marillion among others but I remember it most of all for the police driving in to close it down and raid it just as I was driving out in the works van

I went to that - Phil Lynott also played with Grand Slam.

There was no Glastonbury that year so the travellers decided to have a weekend in Yorkshire. They were openly walking round the festival with trays of drugs for sale which didn't go down well with the police hence the raid.

I also saw Phil Lynott and Grand Slam that same year supporting Status Quo at Selhurst Park.

Great memories thanks HA, have been like most to many the earliest I can remember was Free at the top rank, Focus Sheffield City Hall and the last Sergei Prokofiev at the Musikverein, Golden Hall in Vienna last year although we just got in with tickets from a secondary seller and were seated in the very back row of the upper level and knew only one piece, but it was memorable. I put a link below and I reckon a lot will know it, hang in till al least 1.45min, Romeo and Juliet suite. You will also notice bits that remind you of Peter and the Wolf which he also wrote.

Bitter Suite - Rockware Social Club !

Yes Wolfie. Saw Bitter Suite loads of times round Donny. Might've been there with you.
They were brilliant, Baz could give Paul Rodgers a run for his money

The Eagles- De Kuip (Feijenoord Stadium, Rotterdam)
Dire Straits - Rodahal, Kerkrade
Procul Harem and Ian Carr's Nucleus (New Theatre, Oxford)

Also memorable more for the setting - Ralph McTell in a student's room with about 12 us in a 14th century room in an Oxford College

Saw Dire Straights at Sheffield Arena, thought they were poor to be honest DU. (1991)

My memory cells are kicking in!

Saw Guns and Roses at Maine Road in 1992 when they were supported by Faith No More and Soundgarden.

Saw Faith No More the next year when they headlined at Sheffield Arena.

It was in 1981 when I saw them in Kerkrade and they were still new. Also a relatively small indoor venue with a great atmosphere - last minute rearranged gig everyone happy at the opportunity. I guess that made a difference.

The Eagles were definitely the best - ca 2008. The gigs in Oxford were ca 1972.

I'm not the greatest of gig-goers but I saw The Fall live four times and they were never less than outstanding. That was in the mid-80s though when Brix had drilled into being a very tight combo.

I didn't see Thin Lizzy in Nottingham once

Pre Social media days (of course) I drove to the Venue Theatre Royal having allowed for a couple of drinks beforehand. There seemed to be no one about and in the Pub I found out they had cancelled as some point - be it hours or days or weeks I never did find out

Went to see Dire Straits-Chester 85 ,they were over 2 hours late coming on stage which isn’t much fun when you’re stood on top of some coconut matting covering an ice rink in December. After about 3 songs most of the audience seemed to show about as much interest in Dire Straits as the band did them. Worst concert ever

It wasn't quite that bad for me, but I did get the impression they wanted to get through their set list as quick as possible and bugger off.

First proper live music show :
taken by parents to some Pantomime thing at the Gaumont , with Lulu and Heinz ( just like Eddy )

First proper gig - Pink Floyd at Top Rank Donny 1970
Best Donny gig - David Bowie ' Ziggy Stardust' again Top Rank Donny 1972

though not especially a fan - best stand up clapping gig
Rory Gallagher  De Montfort Hall Leicester 1972
Best Leicester gig - Roxy Music Leicester University
Touring  their first album plus 'Virginia Plain ' 1973
original line up with Brian Eno
After 3 or 4 years of bands in jeans and t shirts it was like OMFG are these guys from another planet ?
Played 3 encores , crowd still wanted more but had to admit they had no more material left to play.

Talking Heads - Newcastle City Hall ' Fear of Music' tour 1979

Tom Petty Manchester Apollo 1980

Kraftwerk - Manchester Apollo 2005 ish
Kraftwerk again - Manchester Velodrome 2009

Holy Holy - Woody Woodmansy , Toni Visconti with Glen Gregory (Heaven 17) on vocals doing
David Bowie cover versions at Bridgewater Hall Manchester last year - very impressive

These days - Jools Holland every 2 or 3 years , always puts on a good show.

Always keeping eyes open but really expensive these days and tickets seem to go in first 5 minutes

Lindisfarne twice - within 5 days I think it was Sheffield City Hall and then Coliseum London

Support band Genesis in Peter Gabriels Fox on head days. Whatever happened to them ?

Very jealous of you seeing The Smiths live.

Seen Morrissey in Newcastle and Nottingham & Johnny Marr in the Leadmill in Sheff.

I saw Jools Holland too, 20-odd years ago in one of those stately homes grounds gigs..

Jools put on a great show, but his brother also played and was just as good, if not better, on piano.

Some decent ones there HA

My three most memorable ones were.

Stone Roses at Stratford-upon-Avon leisure centre in June 89. Only about 150 people there but everyone there knew they were experiencing a phenomenon just waiting to explode.

New Order at the G-Mex in Dec 1989. Just before Technique came out. They were at the top of their game. They took the roof off the place.

May 1986 The Redskins at Leeds Poly. Back when the Left had all the very best songs.

November 1987. Chicago Jackmasters House Tour at Sheffield Uni. Astonishing night, with the inventors of an entire genre of music up there. Marshall Jefferson, Daryl Pandy, Kevin Irving, Frankie Knuckles.

Billy, I was at that New Order gig at G-Mex. ACR and Happy Mondays supporting. I could have sworn it was 88 though.

My best gigs are....

That New Order one in 1988 at G-Mex

New Order at London Troxy, 10th Dec 2011. Spent the evening talking to Dick from Dick and Dom.

Frank Turner/Green Day at Manchester Old Trafford Cricket ground, 16th June 2010. My twin sons' first ever gig. They were 6.

Carter USM - The final comedown, Shepherds Bush, 21st November 2014.  The penultimate ever Carter show. It was superb. I was very, very drunk.

The Stone Roses, Bridlington Spa, 28th November 1995. I'd seen the Roses when their eponymously titled first album was very new, but this was when the difficult 2nd album had just landed. The venue made this one, with its huge ornate glass dome.

That was a bit on the uppish side for then too.  We went on a coach from Sheffield. Dropped us back in Sheffield City centre at 1am. No trains till about 6am. Ended up sat in an all night cafe eating bacon sarnies and drinking tea for 5 hours. It was absolutely freezing outside.

I have been to many a gig but I was incredibly fortunate to get tickets to Live 8 @ Hyde Park and saw some incredible music...I think I was perhaps a bit young at the time to appreciate some of the bands that played that day including Pink Floyd, but it was an unforgettable day.

For those still interested in live music, the village hall out at Wroot has an evening a few times a month called 'Wroot Rocks' and they have had some unbelievable acts down there over the last few months, come might not be particularly recognisable names to most (Will Varley, Ben Ottewell, Gaz Brookfield, The Leylines) but the standard of music I have seen in such a small venue has been fantastic....I would fully recommend going...
I will be at Wroot on the 26th April, no idea who is playing but the girlfriend loves this place and is dragging me along.
