I went to a Bowie concert years ago, the audio was awful, and looking back I have tended to go to concert venues rather than outdoors concerts unless they are smaller. I saw Joan Armatrading a couple of years ago and before that Joe Cocker was on the same bill as Tony Joe White, I listened to someone we met in the foyer tell me how TJW was now over the hill and not worth watching so I had to bite my tongue as he was the main act for me. I made a mistake going in to see the Hollies I think it was them at a club in Donny and as it was pissing down so I got a taxi (rare for me)so turned up long hair multi-coloured all standard garb for the era in an old classic merc and the doorman said 'oh you're with the band come in they're all down the back' but I wasn't thinking quick enough and paid.

I have been to many a gig but I was incredibly fortunate to get tickets to Live 8 @ Hyde Park and saw some incredible music...I think I was perhaps a bit young at the time to appreciate some of the bands that played that day including Pink Floyd, but it was an unforgettable day.

For those still interested in live music, the village hall out at Wroot has an evening a few times a month called 'Wroot Rocks' and they have had some unbelievable acts down there over the last few months, come might not be particularly recognisable names to most (Will Varley, Ben Ottewell, Gaz Brookfield, The Leylines) but the standard of music I have seen in such a small venue has been fantastic....I would fully recommend going...

  I will be at Wroot on the 26th April, no idea who is playing but the girlfriend loves this place and is dragging me along.

G n r with faster pussycat which someone else has mentioned- rock city
Arctic monkeys-Leadmill This was a competition win with Muttley
Otis Gibbs-various venues about ten times- love the guy
Slug the Night**tchmen-Castle back room most weeks in the late eighties
Pulp just as they were breaking big at Town and Country Leeds
Henry Rollins -Leeds poly
Ozzy and Ratt-Sheffield city hall about 87 -also Motley crue a few days earlier same venue
Hurray for the Riff raff-Greystoned Sheffield
Snapped Ankles-brudenell Leeds this year
There’s many more and I’m sure some of you guys went to some of these. Good times

Nostell Priory 1984 - The Damned, The Band, Van Morrison, Pretenders, Marillion among others but I remember it most of all for the police driving in to close it down and raid it just as I was driving out in the works van

The Damned's first gig without Captain Sensible. Until he reformed them with Vanian in the late 90s.

Not exactly gigs as such, but at the PFA dinner and awards ceremony they do provide top class acts as entertainment, usually 2 or 3 at each dinner. Most of them are current pop artists who I fail to know anything about but in recent years I've seen Mel C and Jake Bugg.

I met Mel C during my Little Theatre days, Martin; a really nice down to earth girl.
