Here's the ITEN Match Preview for you to read before kick-off:

https://www.intotheemptynet.com/post/iten-match-preview-southend-h

Very glad I didn't waste time on Likely Line-Ups for this one, as I did not envision Joe Wright being dropped! Surprised and a little disappointed at that to be honest, but in Darren we trust.

Disappointed wright isn’t starting unless he’s in need of a rest it would appear to be a case of loan signings been required to start or at least favourited.

We all want permanent signings but if we’re to use the full loan allowance every year (which makes huge sense financially) then no point signing too many 1st team players permanently. The loan players will have to start regardless! At least this season and last season we’ve had good loan players

Not sure what loanees have to do with it - both players dropping out and coming in are on permanent contracts..

Compared with the starting eleven on Friday (ignoring positions) Wright and Gomes are replaced by Coppinger and Sadlier

This is very stop start so far. Southend giving as good as they get. No real quality being shown by either team. Rovers have one disallowed by Ennis that was given offside before he hit a lovely finish.

And then a poor back pass from Cameron John nearly gave Southend one on a plate.

Poor control by Sadlier when a decent touch would have put him one on one 20 yards out.

Maybe, maybe, Rovers have just about started to assert themselves.

Everything has to be a conspiracy, doesn't it? I'd rather Wright played but John has been a sub plenty since he came back from injury, he obviously isn't just being played due to being a loanee.

Dieng missed a cross early on he should never have come for, but redeemed himsef with closing down the Southend striker.

Really poor touch from Sadlier when played in but Copps should maybe have put more on the pass.

Sloppy start really, hopefully we can start to get a foothold soon.

1-0 Ennis, a lovely turn and finish from the edge of the box inside the keepers right hand post.

Ennis! Good touch with his back to goal to make a bit of room, turned on the edge of the box and fired low into the corner.

Good to see that a bit of competition brings out the best in him ;)

Brilliant finish that was, Ennis has this in his locker.

Have to say John has had a few shaky moments so far. Maybe just getting back into the central defensive groove after playing at full back.

Southend immediately break and hit the post. Poor initial clearance from John in there and Halliday should probably have got his head on it before the Southend player.

Game’s come to life!

Should be 1-1, and some sloppy defending again by Cameron John.

I’m going to be forgiving and say the pitch isn’t the smoothest ever and the ball is bobbling a lot.

According to Sky Sports, up to the goal, the game “the game was dire in the extreme”!

Misplaced passes rather than dire..

First bit of quality and we score.
