Just heard dm on the radio sheff interview, he almost raised his voice in his  defence if dieng,   cracking to hear, a keepers role is so confidence based, if sonny hears it, he will have no doubt DM has his back..

I think the learning to be had for that goal is 95% Sheaf's.  Filo correctly makes the point that to try knocking it out ran the risk that the player closing him down would block and rebound it into the net.  Dieng was sold a pup with that pass and I'm not lambasting Sheaf, close behind Sadlier he was my man of the match up to that point.
He could have let it go under his foot for a corner or played to his right to give away a throw in. He gave the ball away from his throw as well so more than 5% blame for me.
Luckily at the end of the day it didn't cost us but I'm sure that him and Sheaf and maybe other players discussed it after the game.

Sheaf was only even in the situation of having the ball facing his own goal because of Dieng's misjudged throw out to Halliday though. He should have read that there were too many Bolton players in the vicinity, and he definitely should not have tried a Cruyff turn with two Bolton players right on him near his goal.

Agree with this - Dieng had better options than to try a trick - hopefully he will learn from it.

I can remember Dieng doing a similar thing in an earlier match (can’t remember who it was against) when he was being closed down after a back pass.
He did a great drag back and fooled the attacker.
The crowd cheered and enjoyed the moment.
I fully expect him to do it again at some time.

This one was a fail because there was a second attacker who you think Dieng didn’t see..!

Yes I cant remember who that was against but I remember it well

Also as I mentioned above in the Lincoln Leasing Cup I am syre he beat 3 of them inside the Penalty area. I couldnt believe what I saw (PS I once confused Mark McCammon and Gareth Taylor at Huddersfield when Taylor scored and I thought it was MM - so as an eye witness I am suspect  )

I don't actually blame Dieng it was a very weak back pass and left him a bit stranded

It was a bit short but dieng had plenty of chance to put his foot through it.

There was a few mistakes in a small period of time. The blame isn't solely Diengs or Sheafs.

It was a daft throw out that caused it all.
Especially when we were 2-0 up

Not daft, more misplaced..

Throwing out to Halliday has been effective mostly.

Dieng has always frightened me with his penchant for playing with the ball at his feet, but for the one mistake he makes up for it big time in the way he deals with crosses, and no mean shot stopper either.
frightened you???i think he could play in midfield for us,has great feet and always looks as though as loads of time on the ball

It was against Oxford that I remember him doing it.
He left the attacker bamboozled and played a square pass to James along the line if I remember right.
Any outfield player would have been proud of that skill.

It was just never going to happen he tried to bend it around one of their players. Maybe if we’re chasing a game but not when we’re 2-0 up

However had it reached Halliday, headed into midfield, swept out to Sadlier and crossed for an onrushing ennis to bury into the net, we would still be talking about that now..

Fine margins, and in this case it fell on the wrong side and led to a sequence of errors..

It wouldn’t have reached him though, almost impossible. And that’s definitely more the issue than what happened after that

. as a teenager he was a midfielder with a swiss academy side,  before he moved to being a keeper,   hence the excellent feet..

I had a similar experience playing in the Doncaster Sunday league years ago, our midfielder under pressure gave me an horrendous back pass to deal with, I had no option but to attempt a Cruyff turn, unfortunately I was still half drunk from Saturday night and managed to get the ball trapped between my legs and fell over the ball. The striker tapped into an empty net, my team mates and manager weren't as supportive as DM and needless to say I got plenty of stick in the boozer after!
