Reece James
« on January 26, 2021, 11:11:31 pm by BillyStubbsTears »
Coppinger said something tonight that made my jaw drop. He said the tracking stats show that Reece James is streets ahead of any other player in the squad for distance run per game.

If I heard correctly, he said James averages 11.5km per game, which is up with the distances run by top flight midfielders.

There was something else about Coppinger's commentary. At one point in the second half, he was predicting where players would run and where passes would go and precisely that outcome happened.

That gives me a very warm feeling about the rest of the season. We are not up in the top two because of flashes of genius or good luck. We are have players combining hard bloody work with intelligent application of what the coaches are instilling into them. We are earning the right to dominate because of this combination.

Keep it up lads and this could be a historically good season.

Think copps said the runs on average 1.5km more than any other player which I then started to just pick him out to watch for a few minutes and he really does get about the field I would guess that brad would be 2nd and Richards in 3rd

It was also interesting to hear how much Copps appreciates Brad as a player.

Im pretty sure he said he runs around 12km per game. My ears also pricked up when speaking about Jon Taylor doing the defensive duties and saying hes learned a lot from Josh Sims "being here".

Think he has a soft spot as they are from same part of world. Also sounds like they had same journey in their careers, starting in Premier League and going backwards.

Copps even said that he himself had learned stuff from Sims.

Best comment from Copps was that JJ Price would be a player from 07/08 who would thrive in this current side.

Reece James is one player I definitely think would be good for us in the Championship if we were to get there.

He is superb.
Better technically than some give him credit for and runs all day.
Sets an example to others.

I can believe it. I watch James quite closely and wonder whether he's the real deal in midfield. There aren't many better all round midfielders that's for sure. He glides into positions and if you take you're eye off him for a mo, he crops up in a different part of the pitch. I thought the three of them tonight complimented each other very well.

Someone mentioned John Oster recently, and he reminds me of him a bit the way he finds space.

I didn't hear all what Copps had to say as I turn the commentary off but some of Copps comments were very refreshing to hear.

Reece is still learning and at his rate of improvement, he can still have a big part to play this season in midfield.

I wouldn't automatically displace him and shove him back at left back as John is improving all the time there and perhaps gives a bit more power and pace than maybe Reece has, often using his athleticism to his advantage.

I didn't miss it all. I just turn it off when we're under pressure just in case one of the commentators tempt fate. Saves me shouting Shurrup at the TV.

Love Brad, great team player. Love his busy style, very tidy with the ball & surely he's gonna score a few Tim Ryan's before long.

LoL.
I often curse when people post stuff that I think might be tempting fate.
Apparently it doesn’t make any difference though.   :chair:

Listening to Copps last night made me shout at the telly, give him a coaching role Rovers, he speaks well and obviously has a great bond with all the lads.

Nice to see Brad doing so well, I remember many people being very critical of him early last season  -  as with everything else footy related patience us often a virtue too many don't have.

That shows in the fact that whatever 11 he picks in whatever positions we maintain a decent level of performance.

Very good point.

You can count the really poor halves we've had this season, where we've been comprehensively second-best on not many fingers.

Second half at Wigan.
Both halves at Plymouth
First half at home to Sunderland
First half at Hull.

I'm struggling to think of more. Every side has off days, but to have so few where we have been really outplayed is a testament to the resilience of the footballing approach that Moore is embedding.

In view of Copps work on the mental health side, I would look to use him in that capacity.

You could definitely see him as a mental resilience coach and mentor. He doesn’t seem enthusiastic about coaching actual football.

I think he feels he owes his family some time after putting his football career first for so long. It will depend what fits in with them what he does next I'd guess.

I think that he also said that he took his pension at 35 so maybe money might not be as important as to some players. He comes across as very sensible and I'm sure that he won't have wages like a lot of footballers have in the past.

He's also got his own business (or is it a charity) that helps players with their mindset.

Not exactly true, CBCB; Reece is a broad Lancastrian.

Born in Bacup. Started his career with Rossendale Utd.

James is one we really needed to be tying down to a new contract. He could easily play for a bottom half championship team. Quality player
