Knee Surgery for one of our players
« on October 13, 2021, 08:50:44 am by ditch_drfc »
So one of our players requires surgery...

OK it's a Belles player, Sophie Scargill, who got injured in a match.

Appalled to see she's having to crowd fund to pay for the surgery. It's 5k. Can't the club do something about that? What happens in men's football? Does the club pay for it?

You would have thought so. Can anyone on here not challenge the club. Just seems obscene. She's the Belles captain fgs.

Seems poor for the club not to pay for it, part time or not.

I believe she is an employee of the club too, for her full time job.

Perhaps a half way house and the club pay half?

I think he's having a well earned rest from his part time job. Virtue Signaller. Nothing to do with the railways either.

I though this was about England players as they seem to have a knee problem, they can't stop bending them.

Don’t…

Go..

There…

Back to the OP - if this injury was sustained representing the club, isn’t there insurance to cover such costs.?

I’d have thought so even Sunday league sides have to have that (or did)
Maybe it wasn’t in a game ?

Edit just read OP it states it was in a game

weird this ..............

in the early hours of today was looking at the costs of sponsoring the three remaining players including our forward H.......... ?

and details of sponsorship (it cost £600) there was an email address at the club  to contact with a name you can't really forget   Scargill

So woz sumwot amazed to see that same name on this thread this morning

wouldn't for a moment suggest " Rovers could pay arfur the costs of Scargill"

I would like to think she is trying to show some iniative to help the club out with their costs

wouldn't have brought this up but for the co-incidence of this thread

Yeah she's a commercial executive at the club as well as the captain of the Belles. She injured it playing football... Didn't say it was for the club to be fair but she did write this "I turned my world upside down when I completely ruptured my lateral meniscus and caused severe trauma to the main ligaments in my knee while playing football."

You'd expect that the club would stump up whatever the cost is for the captain of their team. Surely they would for the men's?

You would imagine the club will top it up. The Belles as an amateur team will not be insured the same way as the men are.

Just for some clarity, Sophie suffered this freak injury during a Belles training session.

She was informed she would have to wait 80 (Eight-zero) weeks to have the operation done on the NHS.

Her consultant told her that if she waited that long, then there would be no chance of her playing football ever again, never mind engage in sport.

Hence her decision to go private, where she could be up and running again in 9 months if all goes well (no guarantee of that of course).

No idea whether Club Don are financially supporting Sophie in this, so will hold fire on commenting on that.

I just went to put £20 but for her to get £20 I have to up it to £23 as crowdfunder take a cut. Can't we give it to a central fund so that she gets every penny collected?
I don't mind crowdfunder taking a bit but 15% seems too much.

I put in ‘other’ and it only charged me a pound for £20. I agree, it should all go to her!
