Peter’s Crispy Cod on Carr House Road. Though I haven’t been for a few years.

My local chippy got taken over by a retired priest. Thinking I was funny, I asked him if he was the fish friar. He said no, he was the chip monk.

Not been back home for years but a while ago for me it in my local area it was Roberts Golden Cod on York Road and a lad i knew ran a chippy called Martin's Plaice off York Road and he then ran the chippy on Rowena Drive in Scawsby. Martin Bilby he was called.

Not been to a chippy back in Donny for years now.

Martin's a lovely guy, as was his late dad, Ron, who has a seat in Cussy Park dedicated to him.

Rothwells didn't move - they had two branches, one in the marketplace and one on Copley Road.

The Copley Road site is now a bakery called Shakespeares, the market branch is still open.

Harrys at Dunsville or Fish Bits for me.

I thought they closed Copley Rd and moved to Market Place as its only a "chip" and a putt away

Rothwells has long been in the market place, perhaps Copley Rd was first, I have a feeling that's right but they have both been around together for a longtime now.

For me it's the classic Donny chip shop.

None can compare nowadays to Newtons in Spring Gardens back in the day, of course. Bloody lovely. Incomparable.

They were good. But I still think Rothwells compare well.

Yes, must admit, Rothwells were always bloody lovely especially after a few pints round town.

One of the only things I really miss not being in the UK is fish and chips. Not quite in Donny, but has to be Bell Lane Fisheries in Ackworth. and not to start another debate, it has to be Haddock not Cod.

Is that the little one on the corner?
On the right heading to Wakefield. Opposite the big pub Boot and Shoe I think its/was called if its still there? I've not been in the UK for 8 years.

Yep. Doesn't quite fit into the 'the best chippy in donny area' criteria really with it being in Reading. Last time i checked, Reading was in Berkshire. Its sweet that you want to get involved though. Bless.

Looks like this thread might have run its course, I'll just finish it off by mentioning my two favourite fish & chip shop names.

Rock and Sole Plaice (rock and soul place, of course) is near Covent Garden, pretty good but a bit pricey.

And my favourite named Chip shop is in, of all places, New York City. I haven't tried it.

Back in the Conference days, the chippy near Northwich Vics ground was great.
Stood with John Ryan outside one time as we all tucked in.

Go steady with that injury DW

Whitby’s is hardly a chain, do like them.

If we are going further afield. I love Brid Bay Fisheries and also the small chippy on Coble Landing at Filey. The chippy at Filey near the Tesco is horrendous though.

No, Whitbys isn't a chain really. Not yet anyway.  That was the original plan but it does seem to be taking a longtime to expand beyond two restaurants.
