Marantz TT120.

Bought from John's Music in Scunthorpe 1981 and been dragged around the country with me ever since. So I can recommend it!

Still use the original cartridge and a have Cambridge amp with Wharfdale speakers.

I’ve got a full NAD set up. Speakers, amp, CD player and turntable .
Could never afford NAD when they first came out in the eighties.
Could not believe a few years ago i got them 2nd hand for £30 each. The sound is superb.

Marantz  were a  pretty good make  at that time and wharfdale . I used to play bass with a friend who had a Hammond Organ with the original Lesley speakers an unmistakable sound

Yes, very, very happy with both of them and have been giving them a good go out this afternoon with a bit of Lindisfarne after watching the Alan Hull documentary on Friday.

You can pick second-hand ones up at a reasonable price for anyone on a budget looking to get started.

Just treated myself to an Avid Actus Reference Mono SP turntable along with a pair of Gold Note XS-85 Floorstanders.

Banging sound while I relax in the hot tub.

Can I ask you a personal question, are you American?

It’s the ‘jargon’ you use leads me to ask.

Mebbies just a frustrated one eh dude.

Firstly …. You probably don’t have an LP to ya name, however your selection of turntable and speakers pretty much epitomises the audiophiles true arch nemesis……….” Diminishing returns” you forgot the 25k amp to drive them beasts. lol

Secondly…. I’m the one with the Hydro-therapy Spa, not you….get your own life !

I am very English, a true native of Carcroft until 16….

I use the occasional Americanisms because I spent 6-7 years on and off with the Yanks over a 20 year period…

Why do you now live up the north west coast?

But there by hang tales ‘The Official Secrets Act’ forbid me from sharing with you good buddy.

You sleep tight now…& keep that there camp fire a burnin’.

When I had my first demo of a cd player in the early 80s I knew it would be the death knell of the turntable and i guess many of you have had the never ending debates about sound.

I leave turntables and digital sources for others to debate as it's a matter of taste.

The modern digital amplifier development (quite some time ago) has probably reached the point where it is as good as it gets and I would argue (not now) that 99% of listeners could not tell the difference between the output of a very modestly priced model and the top of the range, an amplifier circuit is an amplifier circuit.

That leaves the recording, preferences of recording, ones age and condition of ones hearing, the source, the speakers, the interconnectors and the room.

I would also not argue either with someone that prefers the sound of a turntable setup to a digitally played recording.

Can't do much about one's age or hearing apart from a regular de-waxing.

Interconnectors, don't confuse electricity with sound. Cheap twin figure 8 is fine.

Speakers are about the only means where someone is likely to improve their system without sticking all sorts of dampers to the walls.

There were many sceptics in the beginning of the 'digital' age, Ivor Tiefenbrun being one, if you don't know who he is you weren't there and he changed his tune, so to speak.

Far too much snake oil bubbling around the audiophile hobby…
I have all formats of music ( 96GB of digital downloads plus around 400 CDs) however I much prefer the absolute intimacy of vinyl…..

Cyrus Lyric 09 system
Audio Technica turntable
Riga MK3 phono preamp
Dynaudio emit m20 speakers

I, last week took my treasured first pair of speakers to the 'Bower' the local repair recycling place and had to hump them home again, 'brown' furniture is not wanted. I will when time permits look to refinishing them with a light veneer or faced plywood, just to please myself I guess.

For those who have a passion for vinyl I suggest looking up Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab and have a read at their background and processes for producing the highest fidelity audio from original recordings.  They also now do digital product alongside the vinyl.

A bit pricey and not everyone’s cuppa, I have a Miles Davis album from them and it sounds a bit too polished……I guess listening is subjective
