Brexit Nightmare
« on December 05, 2021, 08:51:28 am by wilts rover »
I see the Daily Express (he Daily Express!!) are prediciting a 'Brexit Nightmare' for hundreds of firms when the rules in Johnson's Deal finally kick-in next month. Are they right?

It's the same red tape 'nightmare' that the Single Market was created to get rid of when moving goods between countries in the Single Market.

It's the same red tape 'nightmare' that non-EU countries have had to endure to get their goods into the UK all the years we were in the Single Market.

Now that this country has decided to move from being a country in the Single Market to become a country not in the Single Market is it us that has decided that we want to have the red tape 'nightmare' when we send our goods to the remaining Single Market countries. Nobody else. Certainly not the EU. It's the control we wanted back.

Anyone who says it's a surprise has had their eyes closed since the Single Market was created or doesn't have the memory of how things were before the Single Market was created.

Hang on a minute Glyn.

Isn't this the same Single Market that we were told that we were going to remain in post Brexit?!

It's the Single Market that prominent Leave advocates told us it would be "madness" to leave. Then, after the vote, told us it would be a "betrayal of the Will of the People" not to leave.

But yeah, all the Leave voters knew exactly what they were voting for.

Meanwhile 20,000 UK pigs have now been culled, and 40 pig farms have closed because there aren't enough workers at abatoirs.

But hey! Blue passports.

Brexit, carbon dioxide shortage and covid have all played their part for sure.
The pork industry though was flawed. Huge quantities of pork being processed for little profit at the farm end . Such tiny margins, and whole business models reliant on a finite timeline.
Locally in Lincolnshire we are seeing many small holdings being set up with local born reared and slaughtered pigs becoming available. Some of which are rare breeds. Not as cheap as the supermarket, but damn good quality and no shortage at all of product.
I’d like to see more of this.
It’s crazy that once pigs get over a certain age or weight , that they become unattractive to their main customer, which is the supermarket.supermarkets have a lot to answer for IMO.

Huge quantities of pork had to be processed to make a decent overall profit. But that was before a vast swathe of their market was made unprofitable.

Supermarkets are part of the problem, but they'd buy as much as they could if they could sell it themselves. The problem there is they only sell to the UK, which they already sell to the capacity of UK demand.

Meanwhile, remember all those promises that Global Britain would spread its wings and increase trade once it was out from under the Brussels jackboot?

I wonder how that is shaping up?

Surely that is wrong Billy? You mean to say after Johnson's fatastic Brexit deal EU trade has gone UP but UK trade has gone DOWN! Can't be right, they need us more than we need them you know...

So, what's the plan, if the ramifications of brexit are discussed, it's down to moaning, surely the government would go after the low hanging fruit, but as far as trade deals go and that's looking like it has dropped and is now pig feed. We need some of the brexit fans to tell us what the next moves should be.
