I still find it incredulous that after 20 months of this, there are people out there who will let the Tories dictate who they can see and what kind of Christmas they can have. Last Christmas the Tories were having a party whilst people were dying and giving birth alone in hospitals. Anyone still going along with what the Tories tell them to do is part of the problem IMO.

Would you go along with what the Labour party tells you to do?
I didn't assume, that's why I asked!
What was it Churchill said? The best argument against democracy is a 5 minute chat with an average voter.
I don't mean anything Tyke. You need to ask Churchill.
With a piece of fruit !
According to the International Churchill Society, he never said it. Maybe it was just a story in the Guardian?

Regarding family get together, there's a simple answer for me, & I can't believe no one has mentioned it, testing !It's easy to ask everyone to do a lateral flow beforehand & go enjoy yourselves. Merry Christmas everyone !
The resistance to testing is baffling. Why wouldn't you test?
Quote from: BillyStubbsTears on December 06, 2021, 04:10:17 pmThe resistance to testing is baffling. Why wouldn't you test?We didn't test for influenza. The same approach is needed with Covid or we'll be at it forever. I was under the assumption that the endless vaccination programme was the key to unlocking the door to all restrictions including testing, masks etc being lifted, but clearly this does now not seem to be the case. These endless needless restrictions are normalizing health anxiety and uncertainty amongst children and young people which is an issue the NHS will have to deal with in good time. Due to one obsession. As short sighted as it gets.

It's just like flu!"It is NOT just like flu. What would it take to make you engage with the arguments why that is the case?
If you knowingly had flu would you take yourself to a get together where vulnerable friends or family were? The facility is there to know your status regarding covid so why not? It's no hardship imo.

Like flu but with more severe symptoms for more people. So flu is a respiratory virus that kills people and Covid is also a respiratory virus that kills people. Until you accept this most simple of facts then it is not possible to discuss why the approach to Covid seems to be different to the approach we have had for flu for the last X amount of years.

The approach is different because COVID puts FAR more people in hospital and kills FAR more people than any flu outbreak of recent times.I honestly cannot believe this needs restating.
