Well we clearly have no chance of signing him.

That is a real shame and strengthens them. Maybe we go down the non league ,up and coming route for our signing. Or a striker from another country, there are many options out there.

There probably are. But we have picked up the knack of signing the wrong ones of late.

Award looks OK,  but if we have a slight chance of staying up we need a striker who will score lots of goals and marquis would have a chance of being that striker , think he thrives on being the main man

We do look foolish sometimes,  saying downing would be a expensive option and then signs for Rochdale
Come on rovers go for marquis,  at least we will get some effort.
How many players are Cheltenham signing ? Have they stole our significant funds ?

Let’s put another spin on it, McSheffrey doesn’t want him and Marquis doesn’t want to come here. It’s not always about us not being able to compete

Anyone asked Marquis if he has any interest whatsoever in coming back? Just a thought.

That’s the point we don’t know but the assumption is always the Club aren’t proactive

Hopefully he goes there on a permanent so we'll make some money on a sell on clause. There's players out there who can score as many goals as Marquis with less chances for less money.

If Marquis doesn’t want to come back then why or is our position in the league. Why wouldn’t GMC want him that can only be we are bringing in a better striker. Otherwise we should be trying our best to get him.

The problem is we don’t know if we haven’t tried. Lincoln want him but apparently wages are a stumbling block for them.

If Marquis does sign for Lincoln it raises doubts about the veracity of what the club said when they sold him to Pompey, He allegedly wanted to move back down 'Sarf' more likely the club wanted to make some money? Looks like we reverted to selling the family Silver rather than the directors putting in enough for us to 'Tread water'!

I don’t think moving down south was ever part of it. He wanted to join Sunderland a few months prior. Not exactly South. I think it’s likely we told him he could leave at the end of the season if we didn’t go up and he thought he could get a championship club. Portsmouth were then one of the only ones who wanted him when it came to it.

Or his Mrs had just had a sprog and wanted to be nearer family, now the sprog is a bit older

I don’t think they’ve given us any other reason than not to assume that over the last 12 months plus

Please not Lincoln. Anyone but them. Bear in mind we still have to play the re arranged game. I can see what’s coming.

Why do we have to go through this again.

The vast majority of us agreed in the earlier thread on the same subject, we would rather get players in ASAP rather than play Russian Roulette in the hope that we might, or might not get him in.

It was already conceded from the Portsmouth end, they might not be able to get rid of Marquis as his wages will be a stumbling block. They and Marquis are likely to play the waiting game. He doesn't have to go anywhere.

We also have other priorities and will not blow more on a player than has been set aside to get the three of four players in.

This is even before any knowledge of whether he would want to come back here anyway.

Folk say they want the club to learn and just as the Grigg thing fell through, the same could easily happen again so, hence they choose to go down the Agard and others route rather than put eggs in fewer baskets.

The club need to get other players in first and if at the end of the window there's any scope for other business and Marquis or others can take a big wage cut then fine.

With the amount of chances we create he'd be lucky to bag 5 by season end as he often missed a bucket load.

It’s not just about if JM wants to come here, does anyone know if we are really interested in bringing him in.

So, has the other signing fallen through? Was it the Mansfield lad? I’m sure SM said there WILL be 2 signing before the Cambridge game!

I hope he flops at Lincoln and so drops to League Two for us on a free in the summer.

Let me dream anyway   :silly: . Marquis is one of my favourite ever Rovers players.

Perhaps there WILL be another signing before the Cambridge game .. he didn’t state that a second signing would be done in time for him to play though did he?

Still only halfway through the window though
