Under the bench in the brother-in-law's boat where a decomposing Plaice was left for a week, a few years ago. Alright, before anyone pulls me up on the spelling, the decomposing Plaice had an eye missing also.

My first job as a graduate structural engineer was on site at Derby Sewage Works. Christ, when I got out of the car in the morning, the first breath would make you retch. Really nasty thing is that after 10 mins, you didn't notice it.

Then back at home in the evening, if you  breathed in sharply and had a glob of snot run down the back of your throat and into your mouth, it was the concentrated stench of the works again.

Absolutely disgusting job.

The one at Thorne doesn't whiff like Wheatley one by any stretch. Mind the draft from chicko more than makes up for it

I had a job shovelling shit once. At the end of each shift, I used to write "Shovelling Shit" on the timesheet.

One day, the boss came up to me and said "we have a new secretary now, dead posh she is! Will you write "Excavating Excreta" instead of "Shovelling Shit", in future?"

I said, "If I could spell "Excavating Excreta" I wouldn't be "Shovelling Shit" for a living.

Someone once left a pig's head in a cupboard at our offices. (Long story but there was a good reason why we had it).

Over the summer, we had people vomitting in the office at the smerl before we traced it back. It was absolutely rank and fly blown.

I worked a few times with Bo Derek. Not the famous actress, of course, this was a bloke from Scawthorpe with terrible Body Odour.

My first job when I left school was as head shoveler it was in a chicken factory and I was “ head shoveler” . I had to stand in a big trailer evening out the chicken heads when they came down a shoot, I had them inside my overalls, down my wellies, in my hair, just about every where. I did this for about 6 weeks before I got demoted to foot shoveler, that was as bad because the chicken feet were usually covered in droppings.

It doesn't travel that far anymore, thank the lord.

I think it all changed after they got pulled up for producing that animal feed that gave all the cows and sheep mad cows disease so around 2003, just pongs now rather than smell like dead dogs.

Very true that RR. It was well known that you didn’t want to end up behind a De M truck.

The old Subway in between the Arndale, centre and Duke street.

I literally had to hold my nose when walking through there.

Bus stop at end of our road , the base falls to the back wall  and it's a just about a full bladder away from pubs so it's always got a puddle in it

Scawsby doesn't have these problems. The aroma around the place is reminiscent of a scented boudoir.
