Seems a very generous offer, DS and JC must have a good opinion of this player.

I think most were expecting a deal till the end of the season as in prove yourself worthy of a longer term deal.

Is this buying for a prospective playoff/promotion, to play at a higher level?

They say don't judge a player on one performance but that second half display by Lavery was just what you want from a new forward, looked very lively and committed, reminded me of a forward player, we used to have some ages ago i think i can remember.

Well done to him and hopefully a sign of things to come for him.

Yes, & for their first half together him & George could have had one & an assist each for each other. Let's hope they convert more.

Absolutely, someone ought to mention it to the manager, who should have started them together. If he reverts back to type on Saturday I'd be worried.

On Saturday he will start with Lavery and put miller on the bench saying he needs a rest ,we need two up front ,the lone striker is not working.

If DS wants to persist with 343 then we will keep failing. If he wants to play 3 at the back then we should play 5 in midfield and two up front. Having 4 wide players is not working just leaving one lone striker.

If we’re playing 2 up top from now on I think we need another striker. But someone needs to come in for Agard

Well chaps, today is the last day of the transfer window.
Does anyone think we will bring in an experienced midfielder.

Thought we already had!?

Who knows. I noticed there were reports that three Man U starlets were on the verge of being loaned out. Didn't we have a couple here training earlier this season?
May not be relevant of course.

You would have though DS and Copps will have discussed Agard and Griffiths potentially going out too.

There could easily be something in the pipeline that's just the nature of deadline day when mind's have to be made up.

still loans out there

Bernard agrees loan exit

United centre-back Di'Shon Bernard has agreed to join League One side Portsmouth on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 22-year-old is keen to secure first-team football between now and the end of the campaign and is set to undergo a medical with Portsmouth this morning.

I think we can still loan players out to the National League after today. So fringe player might move out later once the window has closed.

Usually not fit and need a month to get up to speed, we need players that can hit the ground running

We can talk about individual players but it is the overall strategy that is questionable.

We have the DoF / transfer committee structure in place but we continue to fire random shots everywhere - 30 year old striker, and a group of barely out of teenage defenders. A lad who is out of favour at a poor League One side and an inexperience EPL winger. If you look at who we signed in the last two windows, barely any have worked out. In fact the January window last year the majority are either out or on their way out.

I don’t know whether these latest lads will work out but you do wonder what the plan is here because we continue to recruit a rather random group of players and our performances remain hugely underwhelming.

This isn’t a cash point necessarily - although nobody knows how much we spend as the club took the decision to stop releasing salary expenditure in the manner nigh on all clubs do - rather what’s the recruitment plan and where are the success stories? It’s thin gruel.

We’ve had huge turnover the last two years and I would say not a single player has been a success. Not one.

There are some players who have done ok or shown some potential - Close, Maxwell, Mitchell, Hurst and Miller. The rest though simply were not good enough in League One and more worryingly have struggled in League Two. This is really not good.

Let's not forget about the long term injuries too that we've had to cover. Players who should have made a difference including those who's since departed like Cameron John and Fejiri Okinaberhe.

I’m not sure I’d call a 23 year old who has just over 100 first team appearances, many as a sub, really qualifies as experienced. Actually, maybe you were comparing to our other signings in which case fair enough, he’s a grizzled veteran.

How many of our permanent players have gone on to play at a higher level after leaving us in recent years?

I can only think of Whiteman

Well done, it’s hard to remember out of so many.

4 out of however many isn’t good though is it? Agents will look at our reputation in this sense and perhaps advise better career moves.

How far back we going like. Sharp Lundstram, Stevens and Toffolo all left a while ago now. The people who signed them are long gone.

Since McCann started we’ve only managed the odd loan signing whose been really good. You’ve got to go back to Fergie’s time for us to more often than not signing decent permanent players (a fair few poor ones too no doubt).

He wouldn’t of picked the players but had the benefit of good contacts. People in the building now maybe don’t have that

The question was about permanent players. I didn't count Sharp as recent.

Watters went to Crawley so went down before going up so there aren't many who were actually wanted by higher placed clubs whilst with us.

That's not always due to individual players attracting attention but the team as a whole attracting interest. When clubs are on the up, it attracts interest from scouts etc thinking they must have some good players. Goalscorers always attract interest but others perhaps need to be standout to do the same.

Since Marquis, Whiteman, Rowe, Sadlier, we've  been at the wrong end of the tables so not really been pulling that interest eventhough there's been a handful of players who could probably cut it at Championdhip level. Only Marquis and Whiteman were hunted by other clubs. Reece James and Sadlier ran their contracts down.

None of them would get in the league 1 side under G McCann so our acceptance of the level of player is dropping
