There seems to be a huge amount of presumption on this thread that he's been given a new contract with exactly the same wage as his existing one.

Surely we're not beyond giving some basic credit to the club and presuming that the facts that the club is a level below where it was when he signed, and that he's had injury issues, will undoubtedly have been factored into what's been offered.

He may not be as great as he was, he may not be our star centre half, but he's a solid pro who can be an excellent player at this level and can do a job at the level above, and the one thing we've lacked in recent years is continuity in our squad.

If he is on the same wage he was when he first signed then fine that ought to be criticised, but I'm willing to bet sums I don't have that he won't be.

Exactly. The same assumptions were made about Taylor.

Fingers crossed Anderson doesn't have anywhere near the amount of injuries Taylor has suffered, as it' all ties in to Copps aspiration to have 18 to 19 permanent players going forward and part of that needs to be a strong spine of the team.

I think that is fair comment, VivaRovers.  It does however leave the club open once again to the Netto Brigade accusations that it is willing to continue with it's weakening of the playing squad.

Baffling.
Defensively we've been awful for two seasons. The only reason Anderson would get a two and a half year contract, is if we know we're not going to get anyone better.
He's injury prone and way past his best. In my humble opinion obvs

Mainly because Anderson hasn’t been playing. Before last year he was up there with one of the best centre halves we’ve ever had.
He’s not injury prone, just had a bad injury.

I don't really get the negativity around this. Anderson is a proven, solid defender for us at this level and the one above.

If we let him go, would we necessarily be able to go out and find anyone significantly better than him in the summer anyway? I wouldn't bank on it.

I'm pleased we've got him signed up. It's one less needless risk to take in the summer transfer window.

It depends on what he is getting paid as Viva says. He’s probably value at a grand a week but awful value at two grand a week. Have too many players that are being paid more than they are worth and it kills a club with a limited budget. Can’t make mistakes in that department.

Past his best, Copps must expect us to stay in this division for that time

Injury problems a concern especially with 2 and half year contract.Maybe he would'nt sign for one year.

Whether people like it or not we are stuck with three at back next season. Nelson will go. That leaves us with Anderson. Long is not fancied and I doubt Faulkner will be a starter for a good while next season yet. That only leaves us with Ro-Shaun and he is out of contract. You do wonder if the relative absence of centre backs means he may get an extension also. Olowu potentially on his way you might imagine.

If we extend Williams contract because we’re short a few players that would suggest we have no confidence in our own recruitment.

I’d back myself to sign 2 better centre backs probably on less money than him!

This may be good value for us if a few things are confirmed and taken into consideration.

If he's getting a wage more commensurate with the level we are new at, with performance and promotion incentives then i'm fine with that.

If the medical staff have got to the bottom of his injury issues then i'd be fine with that also.

I we can get him playing to somewhere near his previous levels then we all benefit, i'd like to see him back to not having any marking responsibilities at set pieces and just being allowed to find his own space and attack the ball, similar to an opposition striker, when he did this previously he was immense and looked like one of the best defenders in the league, it's what he needs more than anything else, asking him to man mark is a lottery, i've watched him closely, only half the player he can be when bridled with that responsibility.

Looking to next season I think we need another senior centre back, sign Brown if we can, probably two HIGH ENERGY central midfielders, pace on the width, and at least one central option to Miller. Re-sign Olowu. We might just have a chance of competing next season.

Sounds sensible but if we insist on playing out from the back on every occasion without mixing it up then we will just waste our money on the better players because the end result will be the same stunted, no attacking play with static players looking at three defenders and a goalie getting themselves into a tangle every week.

Very good news, will still be a good player for us, & deserves a decent contract.

Delighted Anderson has signed a new contract.

It was obviously going to take some time to get over his injury. It was a nasty one.
Why are people saying he is injury prone? Where is the evidence for that?
He has had a few niggles because it takes any player a while to get back up to speed after a long lay off.

If the coach and medical staff feel his fitness is not an issue going forward then giving him another 2 yrs after this season is a no brainier.
He is an excellent pro and role model and at league 2 level we would seriously struggle to get anyone better imo.

The medical staff haven’t got a great record on judging player fitness

We have different staff now compared to the start of  the season don’t we?
