I don't think so, because Copps seems fixated on playing the fluent footballing style that he was part of under SOD. It won't work in League 2, nor will he and DS be able to attract players to the club that can play like that.
Plenty of players in the conf who are at teams that just won’t make it this season promo wise. The playoffs in the conf are a very ideal hunting ground for talent . There will be just the sort of players there that we need . Physical determined experienced . If notts county or chesterfield don’t make it I’d expect our recruiters to be all over them for signings . I won’t hold my breath
We need a mixture of players. For me we need a very experienced, dominant of his box goalkeeper. We need a centre piece in that centre back position that always seems to win the headers and always be in the right place.A younger quicker centre back or backs at the side of him. Energetic full back/wing backs that are good on the ball but can defend as well. Also someone who wins the ball back quickly and gives it to the better players. We need energy and enterprise in the midfield and movement. We need a goal threat in there. Wingers that can cross a ball and strikers that move and can finish. We need a competitive, mixed age squad that work together and won’t be beaten.
If Copps as head of football identifies strong characters and brings them in I imagine they will have to play whether Schofield is comfortable with them in the dressing room or not.I'm sure that Copps, Gavin and Terry will have discussed what is required mentally and physically of new signings. Obviously DS has input but who has the final say?
CampsFor any style of football, the goalkeeper needs to have his throwing and kicking distribution up to professional standard. In the recent Northampton game, their goalie was hitting it long perfectly to the physical striker up top. Mitchell couldn’t do that, more likely to find someone in the dugout. If we played in a counter attacking style, he wouldn’t have the speed of thought or vision to pick a breaking player out with a throw.Even in terms of pure shot stopping, statistically speaking there are 20 goalkeepers better than him in the league.I’m amazed at how you can continue to defend him.
Mitchell has got noticeably much worse since dislocating his shoulder. Before he was very confident about catching crosses. Since then he has started attempting what are dreadful punches. Personally I believe he has lost his nerve and is worried that if he catches with both hands he won't be able to break his fall.
Just tell me who Mitchell should be trying to aim for? We have nothing up front to win the ball down the middle so he has to kick to the wings, if he gets it wrong it's out of play if he gets it right it's at the best 50 - 50 that we win it.The last game I saw Faulkener was pushing up wide right in an attempt to win the header, a bloody centre back!!!
