Pleased to say I saw Elton a couple of times in the 70's, not seen last night but read that his voice was a bit shot.
Might be his last tour but he has said he'll do one offs, maybe!

I thought he was pretty poor. His songs are obviously great but his voice and performance are nowhere near what they were.

Mmm..I wonder if it’s an age thing?

I’ve never been a singer however, my beep tests are shocking to what they were 40 years ago.

He's obviously not as good vocally as he was in his prime, but his showmanship never recedes. He attracted 7 million viewers, and none were forced to watch him.

I thought he sounded pretty good for someone pushing 80 who spent the entire 70s smashing gear up his nose.

Disagree about his voice. I thought it sounded great. After enjoying this year's Glastonbury, I had trepidations about watching Elton. Despite having written some great songs(the music side), I never liked the glitzy clothes and OTT glasses.

However, last night was about connecting with the audience, which he did with unbelievable emotion and feeling. Some of the TV pundits who do Glastonbury every year were rating it as one of the greatest headliner performances they'd ever seen at the place, with one of the biggest ever crowds. They were packed in like sardines, all of them singing, and some even in tears, people of all ages.

Absolutely memorable.

SS I've been to Glasto several times over the last 10 years and when people talk about the largest crowd, the most connected it all becomes very subjective.
I have to say without seeing any pictures of Eltons crowd that The Stones was the biggest audience I've seen and been in they were going back into the camping areas as they were for Kylie or Dolly and the last 2 were Legend slots and as for connecting with the audience, hit after hit, need I say more.
It also depends on who is headlining on the Other Stage The Park or West Holts which will affect the numbers.
I'm looking forward to catching up on this years Glasto when we get back home on Sunday, failure to get tickets for this year prompted a couple of foreign hols instead
Glasto 2024 better watch out if I get tickets

Yep was there the stones year and it was huge (and I didn't enjoy them either).  Thought Elton was ace, played all the hits and his voice was great for his age.

Everyone has a natural singing voice that is unique to them. Some people have a voice that can attract millions of listeners, whereas others have a voice that only their mothers can tolerate.

I think in regards to pop/folk/rock performers, the attraction is not so much the quality of the singing, but more the quality of the songs.

As I said subjective, I thought Stone were tremendous. I saw them at IoW 2007? They were good the but Glasto was far far better
