Wow! That's crazy. Horsham back in the cup, will play Sutton in round 2! You'd be well annoyed if you were a Tyke, two goes to beat Horsham then kicked out anyway.

As much as they've had a shocker I think they have handled it as positively as possible - taken responsibility, apologised - no complaining or appealing or blaming anyone else. Crap for the fans though.

Absolutely livid with the club , this is unforgivable .

There's club's that begin this competition in August at the very bottom of the pyramid with a couple of volunteers who don't make mistakes like this .

It's only the second time it's happened in 100 years , that's the measure of this debacle .

The CEO is working his 6 months notice as he's taken another job in the MLS at Minnesota .

He should go TONIGHT , no if's no but's but TONIGHT , incompetent fool .

He's a catalogue of errors committed in the time he's been at the club , an ill fated shirt sponsorship deal with Hex.com which was a scam in crypto currency for one .

The fans deserve better , 3k at Derby two weeks ago , sold out Lincoln on Saturday and still sticking by the club despite watching some mind numbing football of the variety you had served up last season .

Train tickets  booked for Sutton in round two .

They couldn't give a shyte about the fans .

Joke of a club .

They played someone in the replay who was ineligble for the first tie. Some presumably someone who was either suspended or out on loan.

Yes the secretary should have known. But so should the manager and coaching staff.

Ultimately the CEO takes the responsibility , he's the man running the club and gets the bucks that goes with a position such as that .

This is a potentially catastrophic error , not some spelling mistake on a document in the back office .

We are talking potentially a million quid in lost revenue given what a third round tie against one of the big boys can bring in .

This has huge ramifications .

An error of this magnitude is something the CEO owns .

Don't think it would have happened when the Clynes were running the club.

I find the ‘fans deserve better’ an interesting phrase. We hear this a lot from our friends in Sheffield and Merseyside at the moment.
But what makes any fan in the PL/FL any more deserving of a well run club/success or anything else, than another?  Are Everton or Wednesday, or Barnsley fans particularly charitable or law-abiding?  Did we not ‘deserve’ Richardson, or was it just the result of a mixture of poor management/governance over decades, lack of local interest/engagement in DRFC, FA incompetence and sheer bad luck?

That said, perhaps the least we should deserve is basic administrative competence for the money we pay. I can imagine it’s pretty frustrating for Barnsley fans.

If you replace the word 'fans' with 'paying customers' it helps to understand the very reasonable expectation of a competent organisation providing a quality service. We wouldn't accept less in any other service area.

Respectfully, I don’t think that works at all.

If we saw it as that kind of transaction, most fans would have given up years ago. I certainly wouldn’t continue to attend a theatre if it serves up consistently poor productions with overpriced/crap refreshments and I had to travel an hour each way to get there.

It’s much more than that. We are invested and a lot genuinely believe we have some kind of ‘right’ to success, despite the fact every other team is also trying to get it. You only have to look at a number of threads about investment over the last few seasons to prove this.

Not much to ask is it that you overcome opponents in the first round of the FA cup and actually get to play a second round tie .

The club advertising for a Director Of Football as of this morning .

Many of us have been calling for this for years !!

I just looked at the Director of Football advert on the Barnsley site and it looks pretty comprehensive.  The only strange line was the last of the bullet points requirements for the job where it states the DofF should......

•   Perform any adhoc duties as deemed appropriate by the club

I assume this doesn't mean he will be cleaning boots and sorting the laundry...

I've just caught up with this and can't believe what I've read! This is absolutely crazy and embarrassing for Barnsley FC but I think that they've handled as best as they could under the circumstances. They've held their hands up and admitted to it which is all that they could do to be honest.

As for Barnsley, I've had a bit of a soft spot for them since spending 2 weeks with some of their fans at the Spain '82 World Cup. They were a great bunch of lads, especially when they saved us from a kicking by some very angry Bristol City fans who, for some reason, had taken a serious dislike to Donny Rovers in Bilboa after the England v France game.

Similar thing happened to me, Herbert, in Benidorm on holiday in 1977. A bunch of drunken Scots accosted me and my mate in the foyer of the hotel, because they'd heard our English accents. The group of big Barnsley lads who were staying there suddenly appeared and surrounded the Jocks.

I've never seen facial expressions change so quickly. It was a case of South Yorkshire folk looking after their own.

We've also the matter of the EFL investigation in to the shareholding of the club to think about too .

Possible points deduction and fine depending on the severity of the rules we've broken .

Oh for the days of local ownership , we moaned then but I'd have Patrick Cryne back in a heartbeat , God rest his soul .
