Our defence really is non-existent.

From the highlights SS, the same could be said for the Crewe defending for our two goals.
Faal left unmarked inside the box and the keeper should really have saved his shot.
For the second, no one goes to close down the cross and Ironside bullies the defender, a looping header that the keeper should have done better with.
I know that doesn’t make up for us conceding but it goes to show how it is easy to analyse afterwards what should have been done to prevent a goal.

The winner is another case of ball watching ,not picking up their players and getting goal side.  Unfortunately Jones' positioning is poor just being rooted to the spot.

It's a real shame because it's another one that's got away chucking all the good work down the drain.

Jones should not be beaten at his front post from that range and angle. Different if it's a worldy into the top corner but it's gone through his bloody legs.

We concede on average more than 2 goals each away league game.

Apart from Ironsides goal you'd expect a decent keeper to save the rest.

The last goal is just bizarre. How are we ending up with about 3 unmarked players at the front post.

It looks like any team that can have a minor amount of defensive capability will do well in this league. I know there’s talk of a striker but for me we could do with a new linch pin in the middle of the back 3

First goal Westbrooke didn’t track back with his man, 3rd goal Biggins does the same. McGann has said on many occasions that part of defending is tracking the runners. Lawlor must come back for Jones.

The worst thing about it is that we already have suitable candidates to fill these obvious voids in defence and midfield in players like Wood, Faulkner and Bailey If the manager for whatever reason thinks differently then that's that then.

Not sure of the point of the extended squad if you don't fancy half of them?

Another away game that we've lost by the odd goal.
That's 5 of the seven we've lost, and arguably we were unlucky in most of them.
So things might turn for us.

All 3 of the Crewe goals were straight at Jones. We are effectively paying without a goalkeeper!!!

We defend poorly as a unit not just the back four. The two Crewe players who scored the three goals today are both defenders.

Just to illustrate how poor the defending is throughout the side watch the winning goal. Connor O Riordan picks the ball up midway inside Rovers half and lays it off wide left. He then sets off on a run tracked by no one and gets on the end of the subsequent cross unmarked at the near post. In my opinion either Faal or Close should have tracked his run but both just let him go.

Great save from Jones 1st half...I can't see why people think he is at fault for the goals, close range shots drilled in at pace...they have to hit you.

Have to agree there Albie, plus Anderson's tackle, took the player out but no raised studs, got the benefit of the doubt and a yellow.

The best team lost . Lack of concentration at key moments, no organisation on set pieces and a midfield and central defence that need a couple of solid, dominant players in there.

We played some fantastic football. Why did we not utilise the dominance of Faal in the air pulling onto the full backs? Maxwell and Anderson picked up yellow cards that meant they had to be very careful with any challenges.

Two sides that are pleasing on the eye, but wide open defensively. Going forward we looked great, defensively the concentration and organisation isn’t there. We got beat by a good side in Crewe, but it was a game that we could have won with better concentration in defending our own goal.

I don't think many are saying he's at fault but perhaps could do better with his positioning. Closing the angles to smother or block shots, particularly the winner yesterday.

I'm sure we would all agree prevention is better than cure. Moments before, we defended a dangerous situation when Westbrooke got a good block in. For the winner, at the point of delivery, Close let the scorer get wrong side then stopped, as did Anderson whilst the Crewe players followed the ball in.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but you wonder about the merit of bringing Biggins on. Why not Wood? But then if McCanns trying to win the game rather than settle for a point, that's the difference.

we love slaughtering keepers here. It’s good sport it seems, sadly.

Plenty of compliments from the neutral commentator on the extended highlights. We played well against a good side, would have been very well but for the defensive lapses.

The one time he did he dropped it, I said to the lad I wish he’d stop on his bleeding line

Never mind Jones what the Hell were Close and Bailey doing for the last goal.

Biggins and close we’re at fault for the last goal, both left their man and let them run.

Jones wasnt at fault with any of them, looking back he will think all were saveable but all close range and hit low and hard. They shouldn’t have even got into a goalscoring position with either of them, poor defending.

On seeing that again i still think Jones should of done better with all the goals, when the ball is hit straight at you from an acute angle then the goalie should be getting better returns than zero from three attempts.

On a defensive point, its noticeable that we struggle to get defenders into the air from corners and set piece plays, why? its not just that we have average height defenders because it also happens to the taller players like Anderson, Faal and Ironside, so what is it? is it determination, attacking intent? if we managed to get players up even if its just a token effort to put an attacker off we should be doing better than we do currently.

Just looks like every time there's a lofted ball into the box we're always second best, not just from the initial ball but also the flick on or subsequent play. Is it a concentration thing?

I watched MOTD last night.

Jones looks a world beater compared to most of the keepers I saw.

There were goals in there too that went into goal through the keepers legs.
It happens all the time.

If you’re trying to make yourself as big as possible anything smashed between your legs from close range is going to be a problem

Finally brought myself round to watching these really think Anderson should have done better for the first. Not sure a keeper should get done at near post like that not once but twice
