I’m not sticking up for them but £235m is only a small fraction of £8.3b that is available after the scrapping of the not needed HS2.
I don’t know why you are getting het up over this.
It does say there is enough to resurface up to 5000 miles of roads across the country.

London has 9000 miles of roads alone

The money has been redirected from the cancelled Birmingham to Crewe HS2 project which was supposed to be used in the North, hence Project North

Now I’m not great at Geography, but I’m sure London is not in the North, no matter how small the amount is

Well your guess is correct that London is in the south.
However I doubt very much that all 9000 miles of London roads will be resurfaced so as I said, the amount earmarked for there is a drop in the ocean from the amount put aside.

I think the bit that Hound isn't getting is the fact that this is being pushed as a Network North thing.

We really should have realised they didn't really care much about the North when they released that map to support the Network North idea. The one that looked like they had just thrown a bunch of placenames randomly onto a map of North England.

And I love the fact that some Tory intern has put "Waverley" on that map. Demonstrating the levels of their ignorance of all things northern. Waverley isn't a city or a town or any of the things you'd expect to be highlighted on a map of the scale of the country. It's a chuffing housing estate of a few hundred dwellings on the old Orgreave site.

Don’t be so chuffin patronising.
Of course I realise what it is.
It is usually you who points out the bleeding obvious that something like £235m is a tiny fraction of £8.3b.
What with your economics degree and all.

The road resurfacing thing is interesting. Road resurfacing is a current expenditure. It's something you have to budget to do all the time. You don't do it once then it's done.

HS2 was a capital expense. You build it, it costs a lot but then you don't have to build it again the year after. It's an asset now that you didn't have before.

What the Govt is explicitly doing here is taking from capital investment and putting it into covering current expense costs.

But here's the thing.

You can only do that once. HS2 can't be cut again. But some more roads will need resurfacing next year and the year after and the year after that.

The way you SHOULD make paying current costs get easier is by growing the economy.

A standard way to encourage growth is to invest in capital infrastructure.

I'm sure I don't need to state the obvious problem here...

By missing out the rest of the conversation you removed the context in order to have one of your sly digs at me.

Apologies if I miss read that Raven.
I still don’t see the whoosh though, the “but but” thing is what people often write when putting other peoples comments down.
I know you picked up on NORTH London but missing out the later posts between myself and Filo distorts the fact that I agreed with him but offered an alternative picture.
Never mind.
