Didn't we have a 20 000 plus crowd for a league cup game against Hull in the 70s?

The record attendance was agains Hull City wasn’t it? In the 50s perhaps.

It was earlier Gaz, I wasn't around then!! I believe it was the time of Raich Carter.
The game I'm referring to was one I went to that Bob G mentioned below which I went to.

We did Iberian. It was on the way to the quarter final at White Hart Lane. Rovers won 2-0 (or 2-1?) on the night. Hull were a decent Div 2 side too at the time. Big crowd.  In the same cup run we had Malcolm Allison and his fedora in the Belle Vue dugout. Palace went up from the third division that season I think. That game ended 2-1I reckon so Hull was 2-0 I think. Can't be bothered to check. Got to belt up to Cheltenham to collect Alex.

Hull was 4th round of the League Cup. Rovers won 2-1 on November 11th 1975.

11v11 isn't telling me anything else sadly so I can't give the crowd. I think it was a tad over 20,000 but then, my memory.....

The biggest crowd ever was 37,000 odd against Hull City in the 1930's against Raich Carter's team.

20,476 according to Tony Bluff's book.

We had two other crowds over 10k that season.
10,650 home to Huddersfield, 4th November
14,353 home to Lincoln, 26th December

From the DROS official website:

11th November 1975 - Rovers beat Hull City 2-1 at Belle Vue to reach the Quarter-Finals of the League Cup for the first time. Peter Kitchen and Ray Ternent scored in a match watched by a crowd of 25,702.

Under a heading of “More than 140 years of history”.

What I noticed at the game was a huge amount of kids, no older than 10-12, a lot were younger, who may have asked their parents to take them, I don’t see them as coming to every home game, but hopefully they come to some games a season and the bug/habit takes hold.
Success is key here though, and we need to keep Grant and his team to do this. He is a very very good manager and the club feels safe with him, with an idea and process's in place to succeed, we’ve not had this in my opinion since the SOD days,(maybe not even in my 40 years of support )and I have a feeling Grant may be better than SOD as an overall manager.

My grandad always went on about that game as well. Did it finish 4-3 after being 3-0 down at HT? That may have been another game.

That was Man City. People I spoke to that were at both games always reckoned there were more in the ground for the City game than Hull.

The 4-3 comeback was against Man City Gaz.
We drew 0-0 with Hull on the 2nd of October 1948  and I was born on the 8th.

My grandad always spoke fondly of the 4-3 Man City game. He said at the full time whistle everybody threw their hats into the air and few got theirs back. My grandad lost his!

Imagine if general sale meant just that. With unlimited tickets for each purchaser. Rovers would get more into home games .

There are different figures abound for that Hull City League Cup match in 76, I thought the official figure was near to 22,000.  Anyway, I remember the ground being full, and the official capacity in those days was (again) variously quoted, as high as 42,500 in my Observer Book of Football 1974 lol.
In the days of cash on the turnstile the clubs probably had one eye on the Inland Revenue.  For cup games there was the added “accounting consideration” ahem of having to share quoted gate receipts.
