Crewe Home Leg
« on May 15, 2024, 08:15:03 pm by philsky »

Just back from a break in Gibraltar to an unpleasant surprise on the doormat.

Driving back from the match on Friday night / Saturday morning I was clocked on the M1 at 1.15am doing 46 mph in a 40mph 'reduced speed' section - they're installing one of those Emergency Sections.

Intention to Prosecute.

The photo shows just one car anywhere to be seen - mine.

The police rubbing their hand together with my heinous crime.

As if the loss wasn't bad enough I get this kick in the bollox.

I read that 86000 fines were given in 1 week alone on restricted speeds on motorways, but people still carry on ignoring the matrix signs above them

There are plenty of people who think that all the cameras are not working all of the time.

I know they're working 100%. I have admitted my guilt online to the police tonight.

The M1 must have had four / five sections on the new emergency section between Doncaster and Luton - I have made one very minor misjudgement.

Clean licence, 46 in a 40 with no other cars or workers anywhere to be seen at 1.15am ffs - as shown on the photo.

Hardly the crime of the century.

My comment wasn’t aimed specifically at you Philsky.
It was a general observation based on conversations I have had with people.
Out of interest, have they given you the option of a speed awareness course.
Doing one allows you to,keep,a clean licence and avoid your insurance rising due to getting the points.

My speed awareness course a few years ago was at the New York Stadium. For a Rovers fan that was also a low blow I thought. I took my punishment and moved on of course. I still haven’t seen a match there!

The police have been so underfunded for the last 15 years that this is the only way they can pay to resole their boots.

I stayed in Leicester that night, travelled from the game.
I thought I was gonna zip down there at that time, 50 zones on M1 most of the way, & a practice rolling road block to boot as well, was buzzing.
Can't remember a 40 zone, hope I've not got mail waiting for me....

You should because that is within the parameters that they offer you one

I got stuffed once in Grimsby at 36 in a 30 which is higher in percentage terms than yours

The only proviso is you haven't been done by same Police Force within a set period. I think it's 3 or 5 years.

I tiptoed around Lincolnshire for that period of time then I could relax when I got into South Yorkshire

Spud, sometimes they put on a 40mph sign on the overhead gantries if there is something unusual, like say a stranded vehicle or particularly heavy congestion.
Again, that is mandatory, not a suggestion.
I went through one on Monday.

I think Police Forces probably vary a bit slightly but maybe not too much.

Majority of them equate with West Yks Police one here ...

A few years ago I had one of those TomTom satnavs.
I noticed that the speed shown on it was always two mph slower than what was shown on my car speedometer.
I also have a fixed camera warning device and that also showed two mph less than what was shown on the car.
I have always wondered whether cars today show two mph more than I am actually travelling at to discourage speeding.

According to a police guy on the tv. they usually give you 10% plus 2mph as a guide but it is discretionary.

Every time I drive past one of those “your speed” signs, it shows 2-3 mph less than my speedo.

I hope you did handbrake turns all over the pitch, then nicked the nets and stored them in a garage in Cantley!

In my early 20’s I got numerous speeding convictions. Safe to say I was a dick. But 4 of those were on route to following Rovers. Boston, Mansfield, Morecambe (which was called off when I got there) and in Toll bar on way to a home game. Against who I forget.
I did think fate was trying to tell me something. I stuck with it though and behaved myself somewhat since.

It's very annoying when you consider some of the terrible (and dangerous) driving I see all too frequently.

I'm not surprised you feel aggrieved mate.

Exactly the same with my car hound, and indeed my previous 3 cars (all Volvos)

I use Google maps navigation now & that always shows speed slightly less than my speedo too, a couple of mph like you say.

I'd appear in court and appeal that me. Dress smart and speak well and you will be surprised how far the goes with a judge. When they see you make the effort it goes a long way. My brother did it once and got off with his. He was going faster though and was looking at a ban. Just got a fine I think. Other cases got read out while he was waiting and the plead guilty by post lot on the same road going slower got stiffer penalties.

I got done at at 80 going to the Crewe away leg. 1mph over the W Yorks prosecution threshold.

Doing my speed awareness course online in a couple of weeks' time.

Online ?

I like the idea of that - if it’s offered.

Didn’t fancy making my way to Northampton.
