I see Marquis did his usual attempt at a penalty, I said to the missus why are they letting him take it? And he even put the rebound over the bar

Still wish we had him though

What a brilliant player he was for us but he much have the worst penalty ratio of all time. How's he allowed to continue to take them?!

I doubt any manager would pressure a player with such a poor penalty return into taking them.  I can only suppose that Marquis still wants the penalties for no reason other than to boost his goals tally and sod the good of the team.

It’s a terrible record. Can only blame managers who permit this to continue though.

Different one. 'Our' one is at Wrexham. The Worthing lad is Muhammadu Faal.

An Aiden Barlow v Joe Dodoo and John Bostock showdown is currently happening in the National League.

Dodoo came on to replace an injured Solihull player and has subsequently been subbed off injured himself.

Barlow with an assist for the goal!

I remember when people said he was a Rolls-Royce of a player. I think his career after Rovers speaks volumes.

Believed in his own hype more than Jude Bellingham does

Changing the subject slightly, I just had a look at the National League table after that result last night.

Is it time for a re-vamp of the promotion / play-off system in the NL?

I would advocate 2 teams being automatically promoted, and those finishing in 3rd-6th places competing in a 'traditional' play-off format for a 3rd promotion spot.

As the table stands now, Southend in 7th place would get a play-off spot despite being TWENTY-SIX points behind 2nd-placed York City, who are also in the play-offs of course.
That can't be right, surely?

Obviously it would mean 3 teams being relegated from the EFL but in my opinion than would simply enhance the status of the NL as a new 'League 3', and maybe remove some of the stigma of being relegated from League 2, with that 'our world has ended' feeling for the likes of Carlisle this season.

At the start of the season the rules are set and it happens every so often with the play offs that a team scrapes into the last place on goal difference or a 90th minute equaliser, then goes on and wins the playoffs. I’m all for promotion and relegation but a lot of the teams that come up have no history or big enough fan base to maintain a league position, some clubs bankrupt themselves trying to do it.

While I don't disagree with what you are saying DIII, since promotion from Tier 5 to Football League stated in 1986-87, not one team that has been promoted has been relegated immediately (Macclesfield 22nd in 2018-19 the lowest 'debut' season). Probably the 'bounce' effect.

Sutton with 3 seasons is the shortest stay in the FL so far.

Teams promoted from the NL in the last 3 seasons include Chesterfield, Wrexham, Grimsby, Notts County and Stockport....

Exactly what I mean these teams have a solid history behind them and an established fan base of over 6,000 . By fan base I mean supporters of the club not just people who attend matches, because as we know through those who contribute on here not all of our fan base attend matches through one reason or another.

John Bostock and Joe Dodoo playing for Solihull Moores on Saturday in  a 2-0 defeat at York. Cameron John, who seems to have established himself as York's first choice left back, scored the first goal. His first since scoring for us in a 3-2 win over Blackpool in November 2020.

I always thought John would end up higher up the pyramid than us. I remember one of his early games, away at Ipswich when we drew 0-0 and he was absolutely immense at centre half. Never seemed up to it at LB, though, so it’s surprising that’s where he’s ended up playing.

I have faith in our recruitment team backed by Terry Bramall and GB and feel sure they have the means to acquire Rob Street or better .

That's a big shout, no chance of signing Street but I hope they find similar, he was the finishing piece for me.

I would be absolutely amazed if we got Rob Street - he's still got 3 years on his contract with Lincoln and they reportedly paid something over £60k for him.
But like you Bri, I have faith in the club to find a good replacement.
