My dad was sat in the big stand bang in line with where Gibson was. He said he was two metres off side. Watching the highlights although hard to tell he looks off to me

5 yards yet another exaggeration to prove your point. Very odd behaviour.

Just screenshotted the same as has been posted, very tight decision agreed. Definitely not 5 yards or 3 miles offside.

About 2ft off side having just watched it 5 times.
Time we got something though that’s for sure.

“3 miles offside”
“At least 5 yards offside”

By 10 o’clock he might be “marginally offside” but you can be sure he will NEVER be onside.

Just moved on a frame from the last screenshot and Gibson is still onside with clear evidence that the ball had been released.

You only have to look at the line cut across the pitch and see the defender in the middle is playing JG onside.
It is close of course but I think someone is just being a WUM.

Not forgetting that the screenshot shows the Rovers player in a more progressive position than he would have been when the ball was actually struck, dismissing any evidence of offside.

Based on that he looks just on side.

When you watch it at full speed he does look off side.

The sooner we get VAR at this level the sooner Billy Stubbs Tears will no longer have to keep swapping his long distance, short distance, bi-focul, reading glasses, magnifying & telescopic lenses to adjudicate distances from between miles, feet & inches in order to post a thread on the forum worth a modicum (look that ‘space’ up Billy) of worth taking note of.

Here's an even more convincing screenshot confirming that beyond any doubt Gibson was onside. It is paused slightly before the previous screenshot in post 96.

I don't think whether that was offside or not is relevant , you were just clearly better than us in that first half . No one can really have any complaints , It went into pre-season mode after the sending off which was probably better for us in that it wasn't a really bad pumping like last time .

McCann got it spot on today for you tactically I thought

Credit due to you Grimsby boy for coming on here and being so magnanimous in defeat.
We lost 0-3 at home to Chesterfield recently and I couldn’t have been big enough to go on their forum and post a similar comment to yours.

I think there’s a lot of friendly rivalry between our fans and we genuinely wish you well.

The evidence, m'lud, suggests otherwise

Think this one's the best timed one and you can see he's onside by that defender in the center.

No acknowledgement by BST that he is wrong then.
He has been on the site this morning so will have seen all the posts on two threads pointing out his error(s).

I really don’t get how anyone can come on here and say with any certainty whether he was on or off, either way. It’s clearly very marginal and pretty much impossible to tell with the one camera angle given, and the fact that in any footage, it’s very difficult to define and to ‘freeze-frame’ the exact moment the ball is played. It smacks of being desperate to be right, which is a bit ridiculous.

It seems that if he is off, we’re talking a shoulder, a knee, or almost literally a nose.

Clearly the Lino couldn’t be certain he was off either so gave the benefit of the doubt to Gibson, which is a stance that’s difficult to argue with when there is no VAR.

And this is why i love not having VAR in the lower leagues.
It allows for discussions like this. Some go in our favour and some dont, it works like that for every club.

We worked out on the way home that my lad has seen Rovers win 3 times away from home. All three at Grimsby.
He did see Rovers win at Scunny in the cup, so all his away wins have been in Lincolnshire.

Gibson is clearly back in favour. Like Molyneux in his early days, he has attracted criticism in the past for selfishly going for goal rather than taking a more sensible option of passing the ball to someone better placed.

The first of his two goals yesterday was a one-man breakaway, so he did not face such a decision and in the case of the second, there was no real choice to be made between passing or shooting.

Do questions remain about his judgement as a team player?

Almost all attacking players at this level selfishly go alone rather than pass.
