Let's talk about the Hull City cup game
« on January 05, 2025, 01:29:30 pm by selby »
A game in a competition that has probably lost it's lustre now being a competition just for the Top six same teams every year to contest, and if the Coventry referee in last years competition and the Chesterfield semi final years ago is anything to go by a waste of time lower sides trying to get to a final anyway even if their play deserves to.
But hey a day out for us supporters, not too far to travel, and a club we have had  healthy competition with in the past and some great memories. Apparently we have sold over 2000 tickets which is a good following, but just how interested the Hull support will be in watching a game against little old Donny is questionable and will probably see us as just a stepping stone to a trip against a top side where they think they belong.
Realistically our form does nothing to dismiss those thoughts, they are a Championship side, not that good admittedly, but normally a class above us.
The one thing they should have is a lot more pace in their side being from the Championship most players just don't get at that level without pace of thought and running and is not exactly our forte in some areas of our team.
With a good wad of cash the prize for the winner I expect at least us to more or less stick with our line up of late despite their poor form, Whether Hull will see us as easy meat and rest some of their stars is questionable they themselves you would think would want to give their supporters something to look forward to Monday evening.
We will have our hands full if we don't improve midfield and defensively, play well and Hull a little off it and we can get something if we also have a little luck that has deserted us lately, especially some refereeing decisions, and if the norm of big side little team is evident in the game we will start at a disadvantage anyway.
What do you think? would you make changes? with transfers in and out that might happen in the week making it more difficult  to guess the line up.
Definitely a lot to consider, lots to talk about, please have your say.

Given their current position it’s likely they won’t take any risks with any first team regular who maybe carry any small knocks or who their manager may feel needs a rest after the hectic last couple of weeks.
Seems like an ideal chance for Grant to take a gamble and try something different with the selection/tactics.
I would like us to go at them from the start with a high press and take the risk to attack, attack, attack! I can think of one player who would love it to be this scenario!
Yes if we loose we could miss out on a big payout if we were to draw a big club in the next round, but think we have more to loose if we do not win our next few league games.
So use this game to try a different approach, they have been a little better with the appointment of their new manager, but if we play how we know we can do in a big game, they are there for the taking.

IN. I would as well as I think a few are having problems with their game but I doubt Grant will. In some cases I think they are having trouble realising where to be and what to do in certain areas of the field, if they do they are not doing it.
Grant was getting het up more than once or twice yesterday and gesticulating to players what they should be doing and where to go.

We’ve sold about 2.5k now. Would have thought there is scope to give us another 1000 or so if the demand is there, given hull have only opened 2 stands for home sale so far, so segregation shouldn’t be an issue

In his post match interview yesterday he seemed to dismiss the Hull game, focussed on league matches.
I’d expect a few changes in our line up, then again there’s always changes in our line up.

The way Hull have started to play and score under their new manager then we will have a very hard game. The league is our priority now as we are 7th in the league and could lose ground if the teams above us get results on Saturday only Salford in the Cup. Whoever Grant selects we will have to be better especially in midfield and probably in defence. Apart from extra money this game as no relevance in our plan to get promoted yes it’s a third round tie and that brings some excitement but need to win our next league game that is the important game.

There are supporters who have a different view to me as we have sold out our allocation well done to those who bought tickets.
Quote
❌ SOLD OUT

Our allocation of 2,340 tickets for Sunday's @EmiratesFACup tie @HullCity has now sold out.

We have been informed that we will not be receiving any further allocation of tickets.

Don’t know where people got ‘I think we’ve only sold 1000’ from. We’d sold 2.2k by kickoff on Saturday!

Sold out now. 2.3k going.

Don't understand why they won't give us more?
It's 15% for fa cup games ?

If they’ve closed one stand then they will have used the reduced capacity to calculate the 15%

With their pace up front we could be in for a hard time for some of our players.
Looking at their game, and the comments of the Leeds fans I knock about with, they had a right go at Leeds committing players forward unlike most teams against Leeds who park the bus.
That might be to our advantage because we usually look better in an open game than against teams that sit back and invite us on making the pitch smaller, and can run into space down our left flank where where we get caught out one on one and the ball is pulled back from the goal line in our area.

If they rest a few, we may be able to compete, but, otherwise, it’s going to be a difficult one for us. Hull are different gravy now, since their managerial change.

A game to nothing and the players should go into it with no fear, but our current form is not good. On paper, we should get beat but it’s not played on paper, so we do have a chance.

I’ll just be happy with no serious injuries to any of our players!

Utterly and totally irrelevant. They're just training sessions.

A long list of foreign stations broadcasting it from Argentina to Bosnia, can't imagine anyone in Argentina watching us for a tactical lesson in defending or attacking.

They might be looking for a club who needs a decent midfield player so they can be sure of sending their next Messi to a suitable club.

More likely to be a Lionel Messy!
