11th minute applause Harrogate
« on January 24, 2025, 10:53:26 am by Ian Nimmo »
There will a 1 minute applause in the 11th minute in memory of Brian Usher who sadly passed away earlier this month.
The club will put his picture up on the screen, but wanted to make all aware, just in case any announcement is not heard.

Whilst I’m definitely in favour of remembering those we have lost, I prefer this before the game..

I’m sure we’ve had a situation where such applause starts almost coincident with the opposition scoring..

Totally agree IDM.
However the club didn’t want to do it at kick off, so this was my next best option.

It was looking like the club were only going to have a piece in the programme and no applause.
I was disappointed because sons still attend games and his grandson attends every home game.

A fitting tribute to Brian. Let’s stand & make it loud.

I can't remember who it was against, IDM, but it definitely happened. It was bloody embarrassing because it looked like we were applauding their goal.

If i remember right. Im sure when we played stockport st hime 2 seasons back we had a minutes applause. But they had a a red card at that moment which i missed.
Was only at half time i found they had been red carded.
I just assumed we was out playing them

Likewise, tacky and chavvy this whole applause in X minute. I heard he wore size 9 boots so can we have it in 9th minute

Silence or applause before kick off is respectful and honoured by everyone. Everyone knows why it's happening. Nothing on the pitch distracts

Yes,  I remember that, it was in the last couple of years.

If I was there it must have been Crewe.

Let’s not get too distracted from why we are doing this..

If you don’t want to applaud just stay sat down. If you appreciate what Brian Usher brought to the club all those years ago applaud.
Maybe it is an age thing but having seen him play for I
Us I will stand and applaud.
Remember if you don’t remember him, one day in the future one of your heroes won’t be known or remembered by the younger end of the fanbase. Time moves on but all past players contribute to where the club is at the present time.

Your first sentence is crass, nothing but.

Your second paragraph shows your ignorance of what it takes to have that minutes silence/applause before the game kicks off. Are you aware that the club has to seek permission from the EFL in order for the game to be held up for the kick off for whatever reason?

Do you not appreciate that once you apply to the EFL for such permission & are given concession to do so, the club is then put in a quandary as to when & how many times it asks the EFL for that permission & in doing so is put in the dilemma of when & who they ‘knock on the EFL’s door’ to grant that permission to do so & thus being accused of sleighting past players, managers, staff of those they are put in a quandary to ‘choose’?

I shall stand up & applaud on the 11th minute on Saturday’s game when Brian Ushers face is shown on the big screen & yes, if that means doing so after a goal by Harrogate in the 10th minute so be it.

Because the supporters of today who were fortunate to see the man play in the late sixties, his family & more importantly his son’s who attend the home games & will be there on Saturday will know who that applause is for.

Having read how complicated this is to arrange, wouldn't it just be a whole lot simpler to just have the minute silence at 2:59pm and then start the game rather than stop the game at what could be a crucial moment in the game? Why does the silence have less significance by being before the match?

Do you have difficulty in reading?

For the last time, the EFL decide whether or not there will be a minutes silence once the club puts forward its ‘case’ READ MY POST!

Secondly, the game won’t be stopped at ANY point. We’re just asking that people, you included, applause on 11 minutes because that is the shirt number Brian Usher wore during his playing days at Rovers.

Jeez.

Will the applause start at 10.01 mins which is the start of 11th min  or 11mins in recognition of the shirt number?

Yes will start at 11.00 till 11.59

There appears to be some who are not in favour of applause during a game, and I can understand this view.
For future i consider the club may need to review this so there is a clear understanding of what is possible when we have the passing of a club ‘legend’

This can’t be sorted in time for today’s game, so perhaps it maybe something which one of the shadow board members can take on board, to gain a wider opinion.

Unfortunately due to the lack of speakers on the West side there were some confused people - told those I could in advance
