Broadbent

Thought he had one hell of a game today, got it forward when he could at pace and consistently mopped up in front of our back 4, I wasn’t a fan at the start of the season, and couldn’t see what Grant kept raving about ! However I now get it ! Long may it continue.

They are definitely solid. Not spectacular.

I thought Bailey was the best player on the pitch before his goal.

Broadbent is ok off the ball but don’t think he will ever be good enough to be effective at the level above due to he fact he’s not good on the ball.

He was very good today. Probably like most fans I couldn’t see him fitting into the team for a long time. But he’s got that place next to Bailey now. Well done George.

It’s about time he had a chant of his own. I really like him and I think he is a grafter

Thought Broadbent was the best midfielder in the first half Bailey was slightly better I second half but both played well. Then Broadbent was substrate 3. 0 and Bailey went into the defence as Woodcwas substituted. Sbarra in front  of them was ok but he’s there for accuracy in his passing if he doesn’t achieve that then I can’t see what he offers. Clifton offers more and scored soon as he came on.

Interesting how we all see things differently. I thought Bailey was excellent and Gibson (especially first half). I do think Broadbent has improved but still not my type of player.

Broadbent did a few memorable bits but Bailey was at it for 90mins. Level above Broadbent for me.

As I posted in the lucky pint, that was Bailey’s best game this season. Interestingly without the armband on, I wonder if that armband has hampered his natural game. The only point to make is, this was against a relatively poor team.

He's improved no doubt but his passing still leaves a lot to be desired. Makes me nervous at times, prone to giving the ball away in dangerous areas.

I like him, he gives a bit of stability to the midfield.
He doesn’t play the spectacular passes but is solid and doesn’t give the ball away too often.

Agree,  I also thought Broadbent was the glue that held things together especially in the first half although we did rush things at times when we could have been more measured. We saw more of that in the second half, especially after the second went in.

I'd like to see our midfielders carry the ball a bit more, as Kelly likes to do, rather than try to play passes too quickly.

I think it's fair to say Broadbent has gradually improved over the season. Maybe we've been slightly impatient with him in that pivotal anchor role but he's coming good just at the right time.

Agreed with the OP. Best match he's had for us.

Funny performance overall. We were head and shoulders better than them, especially in the 2nd half. We broke quickly and effectively in the 2nd half and caused them problems down both flanks. And that ball from Molyneux for the second goal was as good as anything you will ever see at this level. Yet but for some excellent saves and poor finishing (that effort from the left of the box in the 2nd half in particular) we might well not have won that one.

Agree on all these points.
Broadbent’s work rate is very good he always puts in a shift, he just makes some silly mistakes, he he works on this part of him game, he would fulfil the praise which always comes from Grant
Todays booking was an example, had he used is head a little this could have been avoided, and guess his performance yesterday would have been even better.

Mols seemed a little disappointed when he was subbed, noticed how Grant held him for a quick word. Sure he wanted to score on his birthday, but his performance was excellent given he was being heavily marked. That pass was as good as him scoring so he shouldn’t be disappointed.

Could have been a different game if they had scored, they were definitely lively.

That booking, in my opinion the Carlisle player conned the ref, Broadbent didn’t touch him, he pulled out

What has to be taken into consideration is that Carlisle have no other option but to try and win all their games, and their approach tactically will be different to the teams aiming for promotion will be when they play us, a draw would not be catastrophic for Walsall for instance.

I would think it will be much more congested in mid field on Tuesday, and a much more cynical approach to the game when it comes to the tactical foul which was not in evidence yesterday so much.
We will need to get in front at some stage to make them change their game in my opinion Tuesday, I expect them to try and slow the game down and disrupt our game with the wide men especially tightly marked.
It could come down to whoever takes a chance in a tight affair hopefully not and we are dominant and breeze the game, but I don't expect a classic but live in hope.

Slightly non plussed by the comments here- this is one of our least creative midfields in recent seasons and a team with next to no linkage between defence and attack, other than the Sterry- Molyneux axis, so we are seeing a lot of long ball, a lot of it aimless.  I like Broadbent but I still feel his distribution is miles off what we need.

I think Grant subbed Mols to give him a breather ahead of the Walsall match, and also the same with Sterry and Street.
Mols is getting better by the week and always seems to have two players to contend with when we get the ball to him.

I wouldn't disagree with you, often thinking we lack that bit of guile and quality (a la Copps etc) in midfield yet, we do create alot of good attacking positions and chances. Our issues have been converting those great opportunities so, is the midfield as poor as we  perceive? We get the ball from back to front relatively well, albeit we see passes going astray with a high turnover of possession in this league.

You can’t compare this midfield to ones we have seen at Doncaster Rovers. If we do get promoted we need better players. At the moment I don’t see any other players that can replace Broadbent or Bailey. The third player is up for grabs for me between Kelly Clifton Sbarra Westbrooke. Is the midfield better than last season no will we need better yes. So yes it is the least creative midfields we have had but that’s down to recruitment we had done this season. Can this midfield get us promoted let’s hope so but will they ever be the creative midfield we all would like no.

Hpund, Sterry said something to GM, whether it be he felt a niggle or something. GM instantly called Nixon back from his warm up.
I hope it was just precautionary

Ok, that can’t be seen from the South Stand matey,  but I hope he is ok because he is such a big part of our attacking play.

The physio got up and walked over to have a word with Grant. We immediately brought off Wood and Molyneux. It maybe a coincidence or he saw Wood might be struggling I don't know.
