I see Mols has broken cover on Instagram and saying “sign the contract big boy” on a Joe post

Well that's positive on two counts. DFP also report on GMs comments at another awards ceremony last night.

Nice to hear Ben Close came back to celebrate with the lads too, and Kyle to come back to see the lads for the Notts County game. They do seem (I realise they will never say different) a together solid bunch who have each others backs. I think that is the culture Grant wants and creates, he is for me a bit of a throw back, almost Fergie(Snr) like in that respect, a real man manager.

I am convinced Joe will not sign for us and he has another deal waiting, this is what football has taught me through history, and the injury does seem timely, however I am a bit of a pessimist and love a conspiracy theory. I truly hope I am wrong, as it has been clear since he came he was a step above what we had and still have.

Think resigning Joe is 50/50, I'm pretty sure he loves it here with the club, fans and players. However there are a lot of clubs that can pay more in wages than us.

Joes injury was real, hence the crutches if it was a fake injury or one to cover up why he wasn't playing then it would be easy to say he had a muscle pull so we were protecting him

The saying ‘There’s no fool like an old fool’ may well apply to me on this occasion however, ‘This old fool’ has a feeling Joe Olowu is a deep thinker & he knows how much the supporters & management staff have ‘invested’ in him this season & to use his own words “Like I’ve never experienced before”.

I think he’ll sign a contract with us for next season.

There. Flag nailed to the post.

I've just been looking through rthe instagram post that Moly commented on and there are 72 comments on there.

Joe has 'liked' every single one other than the ones that mention signing the contract......

I think Joe needs to remember that Rovers kept faith with him when he wasn’t the player he is today. Rovers could have got rid of him when he was making defensive errors week in week out.

I said this several months ago and now we are promoted my view hasn’t changed either - he’s not signing. Got a feeling someone else has already been in his ear and his head has been turned. And if that is the case, no hard feelings and we move on. It’s a short career after all

I’m sure he will get other offers from teams able to pay more than we can. Who wouldn’t want that, especially with such a short career - one injury could end it next week. Can’t fault him for moving on if he does but would absolutely love him to stay. I just can’t see it - the way I couldn’t see it with moly last season! So everything crossed!  :boxing:

Could easily have been all agreed bar the actual signing...maybe dependant on promotion, and the club stage managing when to make the announcement.

Either way, let's hope it's sorted quickly.

Football has a funny knack of kicking you where it hurts sometimes ! Look at the Biggins situation last season, I'm sure our promotion hasn't gone un noticed by his good self ! I cant see him getting picked up by a league 1 side this coming season.

He may want to move for other none footballing reasons. I remember seeing an interview with him a few months ago, it may have been his coffee with one where he mentioned whilst being with us he still hasn't found a church he likes. He's a very religious man as we know so I'm sure he's weighing up all sorts of factors.

As mentioned earlier in the thread I never in a million years thought Greeny would have left us straight after Wembley and the journey he had been on!
Since then I take nothing for granted. Not much loyalty in this game Copps aside.

If he goes I trust Grant to bring in someone just as capable if not more so.

Greeny would have stayed with us if we offered him a contract in January but by the time we did offer him a new contract Derby had already made contact with him about moving to them

Even he got off the bus to Yeovil to play with his mate at Forest.

I thought Copps left because Rovers wanted to reduce their wage bill.

I guess you cant have it both ways. I can remember a time not to long ago when Olowu wasn't getting in the team and when he did fans were saying he was a liability. If we would have offered him a long deal then he would have snapped our hands off but the fans would have certainly moaned.

Roll on a year or so and something clicked and he's turned into a revelation and will be sought after by clubs bigger than us and with bigger budgets and we are screaming for him to sign a new deal, I suspect the chances are he will move on and take the opportunity elsewhere. That's football I guess and good luck to him whatever he decides.

I didn't feel kicked in the nuts by Biggins, positively liberated but that's just my opinion. I think Clifton has contributed more overall this season.

Agreed. Biggins was no loss, didn't rate him aside from when he hit a bit of form towards the end if the season. Too inconsistent.

We can't level that at Joe Olowu. He's been very consistent all season. I'd love him to say. His athleticism is the best of all the CBs we have.

Agreed DBR, I was referring to hoping that Olowu makes the right decision, as Biggins has clearly had a knock in the stones over the last 12 months.

The grass isn't always greener, as a number of those who have been offered contracts and decided to chance their arm have found. I'm looking at you, Mr Adelakun.  Although there is still a chance Salford can do it through the playoffs I'm sure he'd rather be in our shoes right now.

Isn’t Adelakun’s brother his agent, bit of the Harry Kane syndrome about it

Could anyone begrudge him if he does leave? I don't think anybody here would miss out that chance. If somebody approached you and said follow me I'll double your wages who would honestly say no? Especially with how short a footballers career is I hope he doesn't leave but I can't say I would be surprised if he does

If I was him I'd sign another contract with us due to the fact he knows he in the 11 and has got another very good partner who helps him look good as well and a good season next year would get championship clubs putting bids in anyway. If he goes to a middle championship team now he not a starter imo. A good season in L1 and a good few is paid then he a starter as the manager will have to because of the fee. Fact is at Doncaster he is improving and hopefully he will know who we intend to bring in. If we are showing ambition and GM has a good budget then he should also know that GM is proven L1 manager.

He seems fairly mobile judging by the celebrations a on Saturday but isn’t any club going to think twice until he is fully fit, even for a free agent?

Wouldn't the best solution be the way we handled Ben Whiteman?
Sign for us but we promise to let you go if we get an offer of £X million

Yes you are correct BB in that the club wanted to reduce the wage bill, so loyalty with Copps didn’t come into the equation.
I was speaking with copps in the changing room prior to a game when this all this was happening, at that time Barnsley were leading the chase, and I can therefore categorically confirm that Copps didn’t want to go out on loan.
It was totally being orchestrated by the club financially, thus the loyalty question should be aim at the club.
